Peru's Copa America profile, roster, broadcasters

Last year, Jamaica managed to impress Gold Cup observers by knocking the USMNT out of the tournament en route to the finals. Although they had to settle for a runners up medal, it nonetheless was the best ever performance the country had managed in any major international competition.

However, they have been very successful in more local affairs, namely in the Caribbean Cup, which they have won six times, including in 2014 when they defeated Trinidad & Tobago.

This summer, they will again have a chance to feature on the global stage. What will Jamaican fans see of their team at the Copa América Centenario?

Jamaica's Copa América record

This summer will be Jamaica's second Copa América tournament. The Reggae Boyz made their first ever appearance last summer, but endured a rather difficult debut. And it was not surprising, given that they found themselves in the same quartet as South American powerhouses Argentina and Uruguay.

Nonetheless, despite finishing bottom of the group after losing all their games, Jamaica at least were not humiliated: they lost each match by one goal. Still, now having a taste of competition against some of these teams, the Caribbean nation will be hoping to at least pick up a point or two this time around.

Jamaica's current form

What a year it has been for Jamaica! Their first Copa América ended in disappointment, but they quickly rebounded to shock their CONCACAF rivals in the Gold Cup. Along the way in their run to the finals, the Reggae Boyz defeated the USMNT 2-1. Although they unfortunately were unable to end up winning the title, they nonetheless wrote their name in the history books as the first ever Caribbean side to reach a Gold Cup final.

As for their current World Cup qualifying campaign, the team have been getting the job done, but have not exactly been setting off fireworks. Nonetheless Jamaica, who sit third in their quartet with a solid four points, still have a fair chance of securing a spot in the fifth round - provided they can beat Panama later this year.

Wes Morgan made history earlier this month as the first Jamaican to win the Premier League as captain of Leicester City

In terms of rankings, Jamaica are presently 55th in the world as per FIFA and 6th in CONCACAF.

The man on the tactician's bench

Winfried Schäfer has been in charge of the Reggae Boyz since July 2013. The former German midfielder, who spent most of his playing career with Borussia Mönchengladbach, managed several national and club teams, including Cameroon and Thailand, before assuming his current position three years ago.

International success is certainly not foreign to Schäfer. He notably guided Cameroon to glory at the AFCON in 2002. Most significant, Jamaica made a run all the way to the Gold Cup finals in 2015 - whilst beating reigning champions USA along the way.

Jamaica have been placed in Group C at the Copa América Centenario alongside Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela, so obviously are the underdogs yet again. Last time, they lost each match by a single goal, yet failed to score. Expect them to adopt the same ultra-defensive approach whilst trying to be more aggressive and efficient when they get an opportunity on the counter-attack to try to nick a goal or two.

Copa America broadcasters in Jamaica

CVM TV are the confirmed broadcasters of the Copa America in Jamaica. ESPN is also expected to provide Pay-TV coverage of the tournament for subscribers. We will update this section of the article once we have more information on the TV schedules.
