Everton vs Manchester United Match Preview

Manchester United will look to get their Premier League title challenge back on track when they travel to face Everton at Goodison Park.

United will be hoping to recover quickly from the 6-1 beating handed to them last weekend by rivals Manchester City, a result that dropped United five points behind league leading City. Everton will be looking to start a good run of form after winning 3-1 at Fulham last time out.

Everton captain and former United player Phil Neville will be unable to face his former club after pulling his hamstring in the midweek Carling Cup loss to Chelsea.

Influential midfielder Tim Cahill is also sidelined with injury for the Blues, while Dutch winger Royston Drenthe is suspended.

Star striker Wayne Rooney is expected to return to the United attack, and will likely be in for the usual hostile reception at the club he once supported as a boy. Nemanja Vidic and Tom Cleverley could also play for United after returning for the midweek Carling Cup win over Aldershot.

Serbian defender Vidic delivered a boost to Sir Alex Ferguson this week when he announced his retirement from international football. The extra rest afforded by international retirement lengthened the Old Trafford careers of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, and Ferguson will be hoping it has a similar effect on Vidic.
