PAOK went down 3-0 to Olympiakos last weekend without much of a fight. Still, the club had chances in the first half to open the scoring and the players seemed to feel that they didn’t put their best foot forward. That loss can’t change the fact that PAOK have won six of their last seven and under Makis Chavos have shown they are still one of the league’s more formidable teams.Giorgos Donis’ Atromitos have shown glimpses of the team they could be during the current campaign, but all too often defensive frailities have meant the team walk away from many matches with nothing. Until the club figure out their problems at the back they will continue to occupy a place in the bottom half of the table.

Atromitos pulled off the shock of the round by defeating PAOK 1-0 in the daunting confines of Toumba Stadium. Giorgos Donis’ team have been playing well for a while now; however Atromitos have been unrewarded in recent matches by not being able to turn good play into points.The visitors put the hosts on the back foot all night and should have gone up 1-0 just four minutes from halftime, but Atromitos goalkeeper Chrysostomos Michailidis saw his penalty come back off the post. Henri Camara’s surging run into the box had won the spot-kick after a Pablo Garcia foul.
Atromitos showed character though and bounced back finding themselves ahead on 56 minutes as Stelios Sfakianakis tapped in a rebound after Dario Kresic couldn’t hold Marek Saganovski’s effort. PAOK tried to pull themselves back into the match, but the best they could was a double chance six minutes from the end. Michailidis parried away Garcia’s powerful shot and Vierinha then shot across the face of goal narrowly missing. A minute later Giorgos Fotakis made his way to the showers after being shown red for a dangerous two-footed tackle. PAOK drops to 5th with the defeat while Atromitos move up into a tie for 9th place.
