Liverpool vs Everton Match Preview
The Merseyside derby comes around on Sunday with the pressure piled on the red half of the city. Liverpool lost 2-1 at Blackpool last time out and are waiting for Kenny Dalglish to record his first win as manager.
The last time Kenny Dalglish managed a Merseyside derby in 1991, the score ended 4-4 and Dalglish resigned in the aftermath. While Liverpool fans hope for a different outcome, neutral fans may be fine with an eight goal thriller.
Both teams are level on points only four points above the relegation zone, the winner of this game will buy some respite while the loser will be left in an unenviable position.
Liverpool are sure to be back by a passionate crowd in the first home game of ‘King Kenny,’ but they will be without inspirational captain Steven Gerrard, who is suspended. Joe Cole and Fabio Aurelio have been passed fit and will be available to play.
Everton should field midfielder Steven Pienaar despite strong speculation he will be leaving in the transfer window, while Phil Jagielka is sidelined with a thigh problem.
