West Ham United vs Chelsea Match Preview
West Ham have signed Blackburn Rovers and Danish international defender Lars Jacobsen on a free transfer. Scott Parker has signed a new five year deal, despite earlier reports that he had signed with Tottenham.
Niether John Terry nor Frank Lampard featured in England’s Euro qualifiers over the last week. Terry was out due to a hamstring injury and Lampard due to groin surgery. West Ham United vs Chelsea Match Report
Chelsea remain undefeated but at least they proved fallible as they gave up a goal to cross town rivals West Ham this weekend.
The Blues opened the scoring at Upton Park when Michael Essien headed home the opening goal just two minutes into the match.
Salomon Kalou doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 17th minute with a little help from West Ham keeper Robert Green, who was unable to hold on to a Drogba free kick. Matthew Upson tried to clear the spillage but the ball came off Kalou and beat Green for a goal.
The Hammers should have halved the score ten minutes later but Victor Obinna put his shot wide from just outside the six-yard box.
Chelsea’s Jon Obi-Mikel then nearly increased the lead when his shot from twenty yards hit the corner of the crossbar and upright.
Essien scored his second goal of the match in the 83rd minute to give the visitors a 0-3 lead but two minutes later West Ham’s Scott Parker became the first player this season to score a league goal against Chelsea when he chipped over Cech’s head to make the score 1-3.
Chelsea remain top of the league and West Ham are on the bottom.
