JAVIER ZANETTI | Happy Birthday | Inter Forever

A spectacular career both on and off the pitch, and one that still continues with the Nerazzurri. Javier Zanetti today turns 45, having spent 23 years with us Interisti. Once a clear transfer target for Massimo Moratti, he arrived at Appiano Gentile for the first time in the summer of 1995. His Nerazzurri entrance was subtle, with a humble attitude that has remained for his entire career: “We keep the ball. He never loses it, it always remains stuck to his feet. A stint made up of 858 appearances (never achieved by anyone else with the Nerazzurri), 21 goals and 16 trophies: including one Champions League, one Club World Cup, one UEFA Cup, five Scudetti, four Coppa Italia trophies and four Supercoppa Italiana titles. Following his period as captain, record-breaker and Inter icon (also making 145 appearances for the Argentina National Team), he eventually retired at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, aged 40-years and 281-days old: “I dreamt of finishing my career at Inter, my home, and I am proud to have done it. ”. The end of his time on the pitch soon led to the start of a new chapter, however, as Zanetti became Inter vice-president. A role that would allow him to proudly spread our Club’s values across Italy, Europe and the World, also linking him eternally to the Nerazzurri colours: “It is an honour to think about spending the rest of my life with something I hold so dear. My family and I have enjoyed our best years here, and for me, this is Inter. ”. Voluto fortemente da Massimo Moratti, nell'estate del 1995 mette piede per la prima volta ad Appiano Gentile, dove arriva in silenzio, quasi senza farsi notare, con quello stesso atteggiamento umile che lo contraddistinguerà anche negli anni a venire. "Facciamo possesso palla. Lui non la perde mai, gli resta sempre incollata al piede: quel giorno pensai che avrebbe fatto la storia dell'Inter", racconta lo Zio Beppe Bergomi, ricordando il primo allenamento assieme a Javier. Da quel momento, la leggenda ha inizio. Zanetti sceglie la maglia numero 4, che non abbandonerà mai nei 19 anni seguenti, caratterizzati da 858 partite (mai nessuno come lui in nerazzurro), 21 reti e soprattutto dalla conquista di sedici trofei: 1 Champions League, 1 Mondiale per Club, 1 Coppa Uefa, 5 Scudetti, 4 Coppe Italia e 4 Supercoppe Italiane. Capitano, Uomo dei Record, cuore e simbolo dell'Inter (oltre che della Nazionale dell'Argentina, con cui colleziona 145 presenze), lascia il calcio giocato al termine della stagione 2013/14, a 40 anni e 281 giorni: "Ho sognato di chiudere la mia carriera all'Inter, la mia casa, ed è un orgoglio poterlo fare". La conclusione del capitolo sul campo è soltanto l'inizio di una nuova storia. Zanetti diventa vice presidente dell'Inter, per continuare a rappresentare con orgoglio e dedizione la nostra Società in Italia, in Europa e in tutto il mondo, legandosi in eterno ai colori nerazzurri: "È un onore per me pensare di trascorrere il resto della mia vita insieme a quanto mi è di più caro. L'Inter per me è stato questo, negli anni più belli per me e per la mia famiglia".
