Lionel Messi reached a milestone of 600 goals for both club and country with his free-kick goal against Atletico Madrid in Sunday afternoon's game.

With Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing all the headlines with his 300th La Liga goal on Saturday, it was almost written in the stars that the Barcelona man will find a way to return the favor. The 30-year-old Argentine increased his tally against Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou to 16 with his 24th goal of the season and the strike couldn’t have been executed in a better fashion.

The Barcelona No. 10 hit a free kick from 25 yards out past an over-stretched Jan Oblak to score his side’s opener in a game whose outcome could hugely influence the race to this season’s La Liga title. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner subsequently took his overall goal tally in his professional career to 600 in 746 appearances for both club and country with his third successive free-kick goal in three separate games.

At the moment, Lionel Messi has scored and 539 goals in 624 appearances for Barcelona and 61 in 123 games for Argentina across all competitions.
