Cristiano Ronaldo reached a milestone of 300 La Liga goals with his first-half strike against Getafe.

After being absent in Real Madrid’s shock defeat to Espanyol in mid-week, the Portuguese forward announced his return with a bang. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner received a pass from Karim Benzema which he blasted home with his left foot inside the 18-yard box after quickly finding his way past two Getafe defenders.

Prior to his landmark goal, Isco scored Los Blancos’ opener via a Gareth Bale assist. Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the win for the defending champions with his second of the night inside the 78th minute after Portillo had grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors.

The 32-year-old Portuguese forward subsequently took his goal tally in La Liga to 16 in 21 games and joined Lionel Messi as the other player to have reached more than 300 goals in La Liga.

However, the former Manchester United man did it quicker than his arch-nemesis, having achieved his feat in 286 games. Messi reached three centuries of goals after 334 games and the Barcelona man's tally currently stands at 372 in 408 appearances.
