What started with a question about a possible red card ended with an uncalled political statement by Sergio Ramos.
The Spanish defender spoke to the media after today's 3-0 loss in El Clásico, which leaves Real Madrid 14 points behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga. During the game, Ramos escaped a red card after blatantly slapping Luis Suárez's face, but Los Blancos' captain had an unusual reply, involving deposed Catalan president Carles Puigdemont.
"Some fans in Barcelona might think I should have been thrown in jail, right beside Puigdemont. I tried to get the ball and and I got rid of him, but it was never my intention to hit him," Ramos stated.
The captain admitted that, even though Barcelona's lead seems insurmountable, the team's historical pedigree can't allow them to throw in the towel just yet.
"Our crest forces to keep fighting until the end. It can't be deemed as impossible as long as there is a chance to bounce back, and we will try to do so. It's inside the team's DNA," Ramos added.
