The Gabonese forward is reportedly close to joining the Gunners as a replacement for the Chilean attacker.

It might not be official, but Alexis Sanchez is all but a Man United player. The Chilean ace did not train with Arsenal’s first-team for their clash with Crystal Palace, pointing to his inevitable exit.

Although Henrikh Mkhitaryan is likely to head in the opposite direction in a player-plus-cash Sanchez deal, the possible Gunners signing everyone is talking about is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese attacker has fallen out with Dortmund and is now reportedly pushing for a move to the Emirates Stadium.

But is Wenger’s side gaining more or less than what they are losing if Aubameyang is brought in as Sanchez’s replacement? We take a look at their stats.

Alexis Sanchez

Games: 19

Goals: 7

Assists: 3

Shot accuracy: 57%

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Games: 15

Goals: 13

Assists: 3

Shot accuracy: 57%

It’s not surprising that the Dortmund ace blows Sanchez out of the race in the goalscoring department. Aubameyang is the main striker for the Bundesliga side while the Chilean is more of a winger, partnering Lacazette in the attack.

The Gabonese has almost twice of Alexis’ goals despite having played fewer games. The speedy attacker thus narrowly misses out on a goal-per-game ratio in the Bundesliga.

The second set of stats show that Sanchez is the creative attacker than Man United has been searching for. Not only can he score, but he can split defenses apart with his passes as shown by the chances he has created in the English top-flight alone.

He has attempted more shots in his domestic league than Aubameyang and has scored almost half of the Dortmund ace’s goals. Nonetheless, Mourinho has several other players to share the goalscoring load in the form of Lukaku, Lingard, and Martial.

As for Arsenal, the African star cannot replace the creativity lost with Alexis – Mkhitaryan will probably fill that role. The 28-year-old, though, will be tasked with scoring lots of goals for the underperforming north London outfit.
