The United States have won only one of six games played under Klinsmann’s guidance, and will be looking to boost morale before they begin their World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign.
Serbia entered this game unbeaten in their previous five qualifying games, and had drawn 1-1 with group leaders Italy over the weekend.
Unbeaten Italy have the wonderful opportunity of sealing qualification to the Euros in Fiorentina where Cesare Prandelli used to coach as La Viola’s manager. In an interview with Rai Sport, the Italy boss was quoted as saying:
Italy claimed a valuable 1-0 victory in Slovenia, putting themselves six points ahead of their closest rivals in Group C. Thiago Motta scored the only goal of the game in the 73rd minute.
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has requested Cassano and Pazzini to improve their individual performances for Italy and play at their level best in the Euro 2012 qualifying match against Slovenia today. Even though Prandelli stressed on the importance of teamwork, he also stated that the duo should not try to 'overdo' things for the team.
Italy will look to consolidate first position when they travel to Slovena tomorrow for their Group C Euro2012 qualifier. Though they are sitting comfortably on ten points, the Azzurri will nonetheless be wary of Slovenia who could pull level with a win.
Having both been dumped out from the group stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Serbia and Slovenia dream of a better future. Reaching Poland and Ukraine is a must in a group that contains Italy. Serbia look to be on a good track after thrashing Faroe Islands 3-0 away from home on match-day one of their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
Coach Radomir Antic can be happy ahead of Tuesday’s encounter since his squad is free from injury. The Serbian manager revealed how confident he was as he declared:
A pair of draws in their two previous Group C games put England in a very awkward position as they lined up to play Slovenia today. England had to win to guarantee passage to the Round of 16.
Statistically another draw could have taken them through, but that would have meant making up a three goal differential against the USA. Possible? Sure. Likely? No chance.
It was win or go home for England, and in an effort to shake up his squad manager Fabio Capello made some personnel changes that proved to be the difference in the game!
GROUP C matches England vs Slovenia and USA vs Algeria will be played at 10:00 AM EST / 4:30 PM Local time. English conceit regarding their prospects in World Cup Group C following the group draws late last year were summed up most spectacularly by the London tabloid The Sun whose editors, in apparent World Cup delirium, coined the now famous EASY acronym for Group C.

But English euphoria over their prospects for passage into the Round of 16 has thus far met a couple of stumbling blocks.
The Yanks were the first; they salvaged a draw against Mother England thanks to the horrid blunder by England ‘keeper Rob Green.
Next up, Algeria, who refused to be intimidated by the English and indeed took the game to them.
Now England prepare to meet Slovenia on Wednesday and speculation is rife that displeasure in the England camp is in ferment.
Slovenia vs USA, First Half: A Reverse Of The Ellis Park History
The action in the match started with Clint Dempsey elbowing his marker with less than a minute gone down the clock. This ugly scene was forgotten later as the match resumed with both side playing an entertaining game.
The 2010 World Cup’s most tiny nation geographically, Slovenia, stunned the world’s most powerful country the USA when Birsa opened the scoring sheet with a screaming goal scored from outside the D. What a shock! After only 13 minutes gone, the Slovenians were on their way to making another giant killing to follow the one against Russia in the play-off which fired them into the finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Like Switzerland’s hard-fought victory against Spain, such a feat will go down among the surprises in the tournament.
Slovenia – Can The Dream Go On?
The Slovenians enjoyed a dream start to their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign when they saw out Algeria on a 1-0 score line. This victory on Match-day One earned them their first ever victory in a World Cup. As England and the USA drew against each other in Group C’s other fixture, Slovenia eventually held on to the first spot.
Now they will have to prove that the three points the picked up against the Algerians was no fluke and that after upsetting big nation Russia to reach South Africa, they also have what it takes to leave a good mark on the Black Continent by avoiding an early exit. The reality is that Slovenia will qualify into the next stage of the competition against all the odds if they shock the USA with a win on Friday.
Slovenia - the country, the football
The “Republika Slovenija”, as it is called in Slovene, is a 20,273 km² square country which counts just over 2 million inhabitants. Slovenia is actually located in Central Europe, near the Alps. Italy, the Adriatic Sea, Croatia, Hungary, and Austria are its neighboring countries.
This little European nation got its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and later got recognized in 1992. Since May 2004, Slovenia are part of the European Union, the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and NATO among other big organizations. Slovenia is not regarded among Europe’s most powerful nations but this factor did not overturn the country’s wish to qualify for the finals of the World Cup in South Africa.
Algeria vs Slovenia, First Half: Algeria The Better Side
The first real action of the game arrived inside the 2nd minute after Matmour got fouled. Algeria were awarded a free-kick outside the penalty box. Play maker Belhadj had a good attempt on goal but Slovenia’s keeper tipped the ball away. The Europeans were much more effective on the left, but the Algerians were always alert to intercept their flow.
Slovenia frightened Les Fennecs through Birsa's blistering striker from a free-kick at the 20th minute; goalkeeper Chaouchi was up to the challenge. A minute later, Kirm tried his luck with a curling shot but the busy Algerian keeper powerfully punched the ball away. Still goalless.
Heroic Captain Antar Yahia Ready For The Challenge
Algeria are experiencing a poor run of form. In the build-up to their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign, the North Africans suffered a 3-0 defeat to La-Main-de-Thierry-Henri victims the Republic of Ireland. In their final friendly match, they could only beat the UAE 1-0. Algeria haven’t been playing the type of football characterized with passion which fired them into the finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The pressure is now on for Rabah Saadane’s men to do what they have to do: to win their opening World Cup encounter against Europe’s minnows, Slovenia. The Slovenes are now famous for their historic play-off triumph over Russia which gave them tickets to embrace the promise land in the south of the African continent. Algeria should be aware of the hidden potential of this European nation.
Group C - The favorites at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa
England
The power-packed English side – filled with Premier League stars – will hope to emerge as ever-running lions at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. Historically, England have never won a World Cup trophy overseas, but this time, they’ll strive to break the curse which is following them. The Three Lions had an impressive campaign in their qualification for the tournament, scoring 34 goals to finish as top scorers in the European qualifying zone. Famous striker Wayne Rooney was a key to this success, and his combinations with other aces such as Defoe, Gerrard, Lampard, and Terry should normally push the English all the way through the quarter-finals at least.
Guess which teams have made the cut in LiveSoccerTV.com's short list. There is a country from Africa, one from Asia, and another one from South America joining this top five small teams group dominated in numbers by two European participants.
1) Slovenia
We start to take a closer look at the tiny Central European nation that surprised the continent’s emerging force Russia in the play-off matches to qualify for the finals of 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Slovenia didn’t only realize a dream when they reached their second every World Cup finals back in November last year, they crumbled mountains at the public’s surprise! What makes the trick for them is the combination of their technical passing game, their alert defense, and above all their strong mentality as underdogs.
The All Whites have just received a great boost ahead of the World Cup where they’ll have to play against Chile, Slovakia, and Italy in their first three matches. This boost is not about the return of an injured player but about the downfall of Serbia which did happen through Shane Smeltz’s 22nd minute goal in New Zealand’s fantastic 1-0 victory on May 29.
The All Whites had lost to Mexico in March and to Australia on May 24, only for people to confirm New Zealand’s immense inexperience in the world of football. But now, some may reconsider their opinion about the All Whites. Coach Riki Herbert spoke over his side’s surprising victory to the media.
Whereas the Russians will try and hold firm to their dream start in Moscow, the home side on that day will try and force the issue and turn fears and tears into joy and excitement.
Slovenia match analysis
There is a lot of hope now for Slovenia after Nejc Pecnik’s late goal reduced the country’s deficit to a single-goal margin.
At 2-1, it is never over until the physical battle is well and truly lost.
How Russia qualified into the play-offs
Twenty-two points were enough for Guus Hiddink’s team to secure the second spot in their group with four points beyond Finland and four points behind Germany.
The Russians enjoyed a good run throughout the European World Cup qualifiers which faltered towards the end as they lost to Germany and only drew away to Azerbaijan.
These results cost them the first automatic spot in the group which was rather won by the 2006 World Cup hosts Germany.
