La Academia ousted their Avellaneda rivals in a heated derby that saw three players sent-off.
Racing Club defeated arch-rivals Independiente 1-0 in a hotly-contested clash at the Jose Maria Minella stadium in Mar del Plata on Saturday, thanks to a second-half strike from Gabriel Hauche.
With the win, Alfio Basile's much-improved side won the Copa Provincia de Buenos Aires to boost their confidence looking ahead to the Argentine Clausura championship.
The fiery encounter produced three red cards, two for Independiente with former Barcelona defender Gabriel Milito and Fernando Godoy, and another for Hauche, Racing's goal-scorer.
Los Diablos Rojos snatched a win against the Argentine champions courtesy of Rolando Schiavi's last minute own goal.
An own goal from experienced defender Rolando Schiavi in the final moments of the game allowed Independiente to beat Boca Juniors 1-0 to hoist the Copa de Oro trophy in the city of Mar del Plata on Saturday.
When it seemed that the match was destined to end in a dull goalless draw, a horrible clearance from the Boca defense handed Independiente the only goal of the match.
Boca practically dominated the entire encounter but couldn't find a way past Independiente goalkeeper Hilario Navarro, who made a number of crucial saves throughout the game.
One year was left on Gabriel Milito’s contract at Barcelona but the Catalans decided to part company with the defender.

A statement on Barcelona’s official website read:
“FC Barcelona and Gabriel Alejandro Milito have reached an agreement to release the Argentinean, whose contract expires on 30th June 2012.”
The Argentine player experienced good moments with Barcelona amid frustrating periods due to frequent injuries. During his 4 years at the Camp Nou, the defender featured for the Catalans 75 times and scored 2 goals.
Gabriel Milito had joined Barcelona from Real Zaragoza for a transfer fee of €18.5M back in 2007. Before his spell at La Romareda where he used to play with his brother Diego Milito, Gabriel was an Independiente player between 1997 and 2003.
The King of Post added the last missing trophy to their showcase at the Libertadores de America, defeating Goias after 120 exciting minutes of Sudamericana football.

For the second time in the Copa Sudamericana Independiente came back from an away defeat in Avellaneda and upon defeating Goias 3-1, Mohammed's Devils lifted their 16th international title this Wednesday.
Maxi Velazquez opened the score for the hosts early in the first half, but Rafael Moura score the leveller minutes later. Facunda Parra's double in the first half sentenced a major victory for Independiente.
The victory has an added flavor as the Rojos qualify for the Copa Libertadores, taking the fifth place away from Racing Club, their eternal rival.
Goias was left empty-handed and will now have to confront relegation from the Brasileirao without pain killers.
Independiente looks forward to come back from last week's 2-0 defeat in Brazil at the Libertadores de America in Avellaneda.

It's been a difficult year for Independiente in the Apertura, perhaps not as bad as Goias, who faced relegation in the Brazilian league a few weeks ago.
Both teams focused exclusively in the Sudamericana fight and their efforts will be tested this week on Argentinean ground. Independiente will be missing its top striker Nestor Silvera, sent off during the previous game.
"History does not lie. We'll win this competition, it's part of the magic of the team" said Independiente manager Antonio Mohammed. Goias is expected to play a highly defensive game, will this be enough to lift their first international title?
Independiente's coach rested all his top players during the last week for the Apertura fight to reach the finale at full capacity.
Two early goals granted Goias an important victory in Brazil

Rafael Moura and Otacilio Neto gave Goias a two-goal advantage from the 20th minute on. Los Rojos finished the game with 10 men as Nestor Silvera was ejected close to the hour mark, severely weakening Independiente attack.
The hosts dominated the first half without much opposition from Antonio Mohammed's Diablos. Things changed for the last 45 minutes as Patito Rodriguez substituted Fernando Godoy as Independiente driver.
The visitors could never beat Harlei's goal, but let's not forget the goals scored away are not as important in these last game of the Sudamericana fight.
Goias is only one step away from lifting its first international title over the Kings of Cups. Will they make it?
Independiente travels to Brazil to lift its 16th international title by defeating the unexperienced Brazilian squad

The King of Cups managed to defeat reigning champion Liga last week in Avellaneda and earned their ticket for Sudamericana final match. Both Independiente and Goias have given up on their domestic league fights long ago in their quest to lift South America's most coveted title.
Standing on the 18th position of Argentina's Apertura with 13 points, Antonio Mohammed has not introduced rotation in his squad but rather created an alternative team to face the Apertura games. The young squad has been defining an identity game after game and last week they were close from defeating league's leader Independiente.
It's been over 15 years since Independiente lastly claimed an international title. Goias lacks the experience and credentials of the Argentinean side but Arthur Nieto's Verdaos have shown they must be taken seriously after defeating Palmeiras in the semi finals.
"We need a victory to overcome the relegation. We need it badly" said young Goias defender Rafael Toloi.
The Sudamericana champion qualifies automatically for next year's Copa Libertadores. A clash between two highly aggressive squads, who'll celebrate victory?
Independiente defeated reigning champion Liga scoring two goals and advanced to the finals.

Facundo Parra and Hernan Fredes gave Antonio Mohammed's Diablos an important victory that allowed them to overcome the defeat suffered last week in Ecuador 3-2.
Rojos followers were overexcited by the victory and it seems such decisive victory might be enough for Antonio Mohammed to cope with his team's unsuccessful performance in the Apertura, sitting in the 18th position with 13 points.
To make things even better, Independiente celebrated an important victory at the derby against Racing this season. It seems like Independiente plays better under a strong pressure and it'll surely come in handy to defy Brazilian Goias in the fight for America most coveted title.
Facundo Parra opened the score early on the 26th minute but before the first half was over Juan Manuel Salgueiro found the equalizer.
Independiente experienced defender Eduardo Tuzzio declared that his side was superior "But the goal at the end of the first half caught us off guard. We never gave up and eventually we got what we were looking for" "We played against a major South American powerhouse but won thanks to our concentration and raging hunger for glory" added striker Facundo Parra.
Brazilian Goias waits for the winner to see who claims America's most coveted title of the year.

Liga was close from securing half a ticket for Sudamericana final in Quito last week as Edgardo Bauza's boys opened a three goals gap in less than twenty minutes as Juan Manuel Salgueiro, Miller Bolaños and Néicer Reasco beat Hilario Navarro's goal without hesitating.
Antonio Mohammed's Rojos managed to come back from such an awkward position and the two goals score playing away can be decisive in this competition.
There seems to be some kind of morbid pleasure behind Liga tight schedule, as the Ecuadorian side will be playing its third game in less than four days and such demand has had a major impact on the form of Bauza's players.
In a week of many Derbies none will catch more attention than River vs Independiente, a clash of giants in which only one would leave the stadium with a smile upon its face.

Miguel Angel Cappa is slowly awakening River's fury, and thanks to him the Millonarios are recovering their spirit after over three years of disappointment. The crowds believe River can fight once again at the top of Argentina's football. Independiente could have lifted last Clausura's title, but something went wrong along the way and the Rojos had to taste the bitterness of mediocrity only a few months ago. Much more than three points will be in play this Saturday night, as on such early stages of a tournament a minor advantage can be overwhelming. Two young players (Manuel Lanzini for River and Fernando Godoy for Independiente) will replace experienced players as Ariel Ortega and Sebastian Battion).
Dream is destiny
It's been over 16 years since Independiente could celebrate its last title in Argentina's professional football. And the former King of Cups is starving without victories. Tolo Gallego managed to jealously guard the top of the Clausura for over five weeks, but the whole oneness of the team shattered during the last weeks of the tournament, allowing Argentinos to run wildly for the top, which they conquered finally.
Both coaches breathed as one with Independiente back in 1994, but now their circumstances have them face each other on Apertura's first Derby.

There was a time when Daniel Garnero and Ricardo Gareca shared a project in Avellaneda, at first as team mates and a few years later with Gareca as Independiente's coach, but now the Tigre is sitting on the opposing side while Garnero is on command of the Rojo cruise. Velez's early elimination from the Copa Libertadores doomed the Fortin to a mediocre semester, for Gareca had prioritized the Cup over the League. Independiente made it to the first position during the first half of the tournament but finally could no longer keep up against Estudiantes and Argentinos' constant pressure, losing the title over the last three weeks. But there's time now for a new beginning, and on such flourish stage a single victory can be overly infatuating. Who will bag the three points?
Friend or Foe
Ricardo Gareca had always been as both a player and a manager a prowler, with an uncanny scent to detect their rival's weaknesses and overly exploit them, but now he'll have to be aware against a rival close to his school of thought with a new face.
Two devils will take on each other to claim the second position. One of them will be lurking behind Estudiantes' back to steal the title, will they make it?
Claudio Borghi and Tolo Gallego managed to grow their squads during the tournament and them both are hot on Estudiantes' heels. As there are only six points in play before this tournament is over, it's clear this will be an early final for the Clausura, unless Estudiantes defeats Rosario Central and is crowned champion before this match is held. Ismael Sosa and Nestor Silvera, top strikers for both teams might be missing this match, and thus the strategy will weight more than the individual capabilities of two teams that have been showing what they're capable of during the whole year. Argentinos was defeated only two times in the tournament, and this week the Diego Armando Maradona might be lit with the light of hopes upon a victory.
Enraged little devils
Argentinos' has been growing tougher and stronger during the last years, but Gabriel Hauche's departure to Racing early left a space Claudio Borghi was rapidly able to fill with Ismael Sosa and Nicolas Pavlovich, two big revelations that have granted Argentinos the second position.
The Diablos are ready to recover the title, and they'll need to sank Boca even lower on this shameful tournament, will they be able to claim the full scoring?
This is clearly a point of no return for Boca Juniors, for not even the infinite number of modifications that took place within the starting squad in this tournament has been enough to give the Xeneizes an opportunity to fight for a place in an American competition. Nonetheless the importance of these last three matches will be decisive for Boca to escape from the rarefied air of the basement, which have been playing against them during the whole season. Who will get the glory of this week's Derby?
A living hell
Boca Juniors' present is a dark one, as Abel Alves' exit could have meant the beginning of a new era for the Xeneizes, but it's clear team's problems run deeper than one figure, and thus call for a more radical solution than a simple change in the papers. Roberto Pompei has for the moment been unable to lead the team towards an awakening, and the pressure grows higher week after week.
Colon's stadium is known as the Elephant Graveyard for no major team can leave it with a victory, will they be able to stop Independiente's winning streak?

Sunday will face the leaders against a solid opponent, who had the opportunity to taste the top during the first weeks but had to see it escape from their hands after a series of shameful presentations. Will they be able to recover in time for this clash against the Devils?
Ghost busters
It's been years since Inpendiente had such a good beginning of a tournament (We'll have to go back to Apertura 07 to even see a reminder of this year's performance), and Godoy Cruz's defeat on Friday made this match a must for Tolo Gallego and his players, as it'd give the opportunity to open a five point gap with their followers, securing the top at least for two more weeks.
Team's midfield engine will be highly severed for this decisive match, as both Ignacio Piatti and Walter Busse will be unable to be on the fields, both having to stop by the Operation Room after some severe injuries.
