Independiente defeated reigning champion Liga scoring two goals and advanced to the finals.
Facundo Parra and Hernan Fredes gave Antonio Mohammed's Diablos an important victory that allowed them to overcome the defeat suffered last week in Ecuador 3-2.

Rojos followers were overexcited by the victory and it seems such decisive victory might be enough for Antonio Mohammed to cope with his team's unsuccessful performance in the Apertura, sitting in the 18th position with 13 points.

To make things even better, Independiente celebrated an important victory at the derby against Racing this season. It seems like Independiente plays better under a strong pressure and it'll surely come in handy to defy Brazilian Goias in the fight for America most coveted title.

Facundo Parra opened the score early on the 26th minute but before the first half was over Juan Manuel Salgueiro found the equalizer.

Independiente experienced defender Eduardo Tuzzio declared that his side was superior "But the goal at the end of the first half caught us off guard. We never gave up and eventually we got what we were looking for" "We played against a major South American powerhouse but won thanks to our concentration and raging hunger for glory" added striker Facundo Parra.

It's been over a decade since Independiente lastly lifted an international title. The victory in Avellaneda have also granted Independiente a ticket for next year's Libertadores, as Goias won't be able to perform after facing relegation in the Brazilian league this season.

Things were looking rather difficult for Independiente throughout the first 45 minutes of the first leg game in Ecuador. A three goal advantage for the hosts was a death sentence for the Argentinean side, but Lucas Mareque and Nestor Silvera reduced the difference to a minimum with two beautiful goals.

The importance of scoring away was decisive for los Rojos to defeat the reigning champion. Parra's early goal gave a handshake of fresh oxygen to Diablos midfielders, but the advantage was short-lived as Liga top striker Salgueiro levelled the game after a brilliant individual maneuver.

Liga defender Patricio Urrutia committed a major mistake in the first minute of the second half that allowed Rojo midfielder Hernan Fredes to steal the ball and challenge Liga goalkeeper face-to-face. Independiente, historically known as the Rey de Copas (Cup's King) has once again reached a decisive stage in an American competition.

Another title will allow Independiente to join Boca Juniors and AC Milan as World's most successful squad when it comes to international titles.

The security of Independiente goalkeeper Hilario Navarro's gloves was fundamental for the hosts to focus on the attack, widening the game as the wingers joined most of the offenses and provided multiple possibilities for the Diablos to lean the game on their side.

Silvera was close from scoring the third goal twice but his accuracy was far below par. Enrique Gámez's powershot hit Navarro's post close to the hour mark and the Ecuadorians began to run out of ideas in Avellaneda.

The blood of the leader will surely enhance Rojos performance prior to the final game. Antonio Mohammed can write history with Independiente only weeks after signing for the team. Is he ready for such commitment?
