Manchester United 1-0 Fulham – It took a lone goal by Rooney and a controversial penalty decision by referee Michael Oliver at Old Trafford to fire the Red Devils three points clear off rivals Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League table on Monday night.

Michael Carrick’s late tackle on Danny Murphy in the box, which went unpunished, was too blatant for defender Johnny Evans to deny the fact that his team got very lucky. Sky Sports quoted the Northern Ireland defender as saying:

“Yeah, you have a quick look to the referee. He’s waved it away but having seen it back again I think he could’ve given a penalty for it. Yeah, I suppose so [the win was a lucky one].”

Arsenal conceded two goals in the last five minutes as the crumbled to a 2-1 Premier League defeat at Craven Cottage.
Laurent Koscielny headed the Gunners into a first half lead, before Steve Sidwell and Bobby Zamora netted during the last five minutes to hand Fulham a dramatic victory.

If Arsene Wenger’s New Year’s resolution involved not blaming referees for defeats, then it did not last two days as the Gunners boss fumed over the dismissal of Johan Djourou during the second half.

Arsenal dominated possession from the outset, and created early chances that were not converted by Theo Walcott and Gervinho.

Gervinho was lively during the opening exchanges, and had a penalty appeal denied when he was brought down by former Gunner Philippe Senderos.

The home crowd could witness the Blues’ seventh win at Stamford Bridge whereas Fulham carry the humiliation from their 5-0 defeat to Manchester United at Craven Cottage. Forcing Chelsea to their first draw or to their third loss at the Bridge won’t be easy.

The truth is that Fulham have won only once away this season. That was against Wigan Athletic at the DW stadium on October 29.

Football Rumours: Diego Maradona To Coach EPL’s Fulham Soon?

Monday January 10 2011,
Tags: Diego Maradona, Fulham, English Premier League
Jobless Diego Maradona has come out to reiterate his desire to work in the English Premier League and also to claim that one of England’s teams (believed to be Fulham) is interested in his services.
The media in Argentina have already “guessed” that it could be Fulham, since Maradona visited the club a couple of months ago after being invited as a guest by owner Mohamed Al-Fayed. The Cottagers are struggling in 14th position in the English Premier League table and their run this season has been marked by an awful lot of draws – 10, precisely, in 21 match-days.

Fulham have also conceded more goals than they’ve scored as their defence considerably needs to strengthen. Worst of all, despite being 4 places above the relegation zone, only 1 point separates them from 18th placed Aston Villa. So could it be true that the Cottagers are looking to appoint Hand-of-God maker Diego Maradona for redemption?

Arsenal and Fulham are to clash against each other in the English Premier League this weekend, and Schwarzer has put an end to any kind of transfer speculations by signing a new deal with the Cottagers although it was believed that the player and the Gunners had agreed on personal terms before.

A few months ago, Mark Schwarzer’s name was in the summer transfer news as Wenger was looking to land his services for around £4M. However, Fulham – who didn’t to sell their shot stopper for a cheap price – couldn’t find a replacement for Schwarzer either.

A week ago, interestingly, Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger came out to confirm that the Gunners will not be busy on the market in January as he told the media:

Javier Hernandez of Mexico celebrates after scoring a goal for the national team.As the first Portuguese to don a Manchester United jersey in the history of the club, Cristiano Ronaldo made a great impression as he helped the Red Devils win the UEFA Champions League, the English Premier League thrice on the trot and other major titles during his six-year spell at Old Trafford. Now it’s Javier Hernandez’s turn to create a good image for Mexicans, as players from this country usually fail to shine in the England. Mexico's Giovani Dos Santos, an ex-Barcelona player, was expected to dazzle in London with Tottenham Hotspurs but in a way or another, his seasons with Spurs haven’t been the best.

It actually looks like Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is the chosen one to prove English football followers what Mexican talent, in terms of soccer, is all about. Friday August 13 2010,
Tags: Roque Santa Cruz, Marc Hughes, Fulham, Bolton
Current Manchester City player Roque Santa Cruz didn’t manage to make the best of impressions during his first year with the Sky Blues. The Paraguayan now looks set to leave Manchester City and join London club Fulham where he will eventually reunite with his former boss at Blackburn Rovers, Marc Hughes.

Marc Hughes and Roque Santa Cruz - Manchester City PresentationBig spenders City have got busy on the transfer market this summer only to threaten the condition of some players in terms of regular football. For Roque Santa Cruz, it is not clear how he will fit in the Sky Blues’ 25-man squad that will compete in the English Premier League which kicks off this weekend.

Having experienced only 19 appearances in a Manchester City shirt, scoring only 3 goals in the process, the 28-year-old Paraguayan doesn’t have much chance to win a regular spot to partner Carlos Tevez upfront.

Besides, the completion of the transfer of striker Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan looks imminent and thus rings the alert higher for Roque Santa Cruz to quit the City of Manchester Stadium.

Arsenal vs. Fulham

Saturday May 8 2010,
Tags: Arsenal, Fulham, English Premier League
Arsenal, a fixture among the top three all season, find themselves facing a final day of the campaign under threat. Their third place position is in jeopardy. What’s worse, the threat comes from an all too familiar foe,…their North London Rivals, Tottenham.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie scored the opener against Blackburn, but it wasn't enoughArsenal are still in third place where they have resided for much of this campaign. Until this week they were relatively free of any threat from beneath them in the table, and have been applying their focus on the build-up for next season.

But with the Gunner’s surprising 2-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers last weekend, and Tottenham’s midweek win over Manchester City, Arsenal now find themselves just two points in front of Spurs.

An Arsenal loss to Fulham on Sunday combined with a Tottenham win over Burnley would see Spurs leap into third place in the Premier League, and that would mean an automatic entry into the Champions League Group Stage.

Liverpool vs. Fulham Match Preview

Friday April 9 2010,
Tags: Liverpool, Fulham, English Premier League
Remarkably, Liverpool and Fulham are the only two English teams left standing in European competition. They face each other at Anfield on Sunday in a game with more at stake for Liverpool than for Fulham.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, Can he save face with a fourth place finish? Despite a horrible campaign this season Liverpool are through to the Europa League Semi-Finals after dispatching Benfica 4-1 at Anfield on Thursday, thus making silverware still a possibility.

Their Premier League objective however, is to finish fourth, which would save face for the Liverpudlians, and for manager Rafa Benitez in particular. A fourth place finish would guarantee European competition next season, and would allow the Reds to rightfully retain their membership among the Premier League “Big Four.”

Getting to fourth will be no easy task, though. Manchester City hold that position at the moment with 59 points. Tottenham hold fifth on 58 points and Liverpool hold sixth on 55. Of the four contenders for fourth, Aston Villa is the furthest back, in seventh on 54 points.

At first glance, and with several weeks remaining in the season, Liverpool’s chances don’t look terrible. But Liverpool have more to think about than just the points tally.
