The Blues will be hoping to get back on track after a poor showing in the Carabao Cup, while Fulham likewise will be looking for a positive result.

Both Chelsea and Fulham will be hoping to get back on track after some disappointing results from their respective Carabao Cup semi-final ties. The Blues, who sit in tenth place in the Premier League, were handed a shock 1-0 defeat to lower-tier side Middlesbrough that will leave them with quite a lot of work to do in the second leg as pressure continues to mount on Mauricio Pochettino. Meanwhile, the Cottagers, who are in 13th spot in the Premier League, were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool in what was not really a surprising result, especially given the vast overall contrast in quality between the two teams.

Fulham did end 2023 on an excellent note as they picked up a well-deserved 2-1 win over Arsenal. However, their away form leaves much to be desired, and come into this contest not only having lost their last four but also have conceded at least three times in each of those matches. In addition, Fulham's record at Chelsea's home ground has been an exercise in frustration, to say the least. The last time the Cottagers beat the Blues at their opponents' home was over four decades ago - back in October 1979.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, despite their midweek Carabao Cup loss, come into this game having won three of their last five Premier League games. The Blues will be hoping to make it three league wins on the spin and could potentially win four consecutive home league games for the first time in nearly four years (since July 2020). It goes without saying that their record against Fulham - which has not seen them lose on home turf in nearly 45 years - will also be something Chelsea will have on their minds as they hope to make amends after a poor showing earlier this week.

That being said, and despite their strong historic record against Fulham on home turf, Chelsea certainly will also have unpleasant memories of January 12, 2023, when they were beaten 2-1 by Fulham at Craven Cottage. Now nearly exactly a year later, will Chelsea avoid a similar slip-up? Or will Fulham manage to end their long-standing poor run at Stamford Bridge as they hope to also start to make their way up the table?

Team news: Chelsea vs Fulham

All info as of January 12, 2024

Chelsea: Injuries are still a huge concern for Chelsea, who will be missing Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah, and Lesley Ugochukwu due to various injury issues. In addition, striker Nicolas Jackson is away on international duties at the AFCON tournament. However, the Blues have started to recover some of their injury personnel, with Carney Chukwuemeka, Benoit Badiashile, and Ben Chilwell all taking part in full training, so at least one of these names could make the bench this weekend.

Fulham: Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Fode Ballo-Toure are all involved in the AFCON tournament and thus are not available for selection, while Adama Traore is out with a thigh injury. Harrison Reed may also miss this game after sustaining a blow during his team's 2-1 loss to Liverpool.
