The new Premiership season hasn’t even started but football fans are already making predictions and pondering over tough questions.
The 2011/2012 English Premier League season is not far away from kicking off, so it’s certainly a perfect time to look once more at the teams involved and at the things expected.
Like each year, 3 teams go down and 3 teams go up. Like each year, only a few teams get to qualify for Europe. And like each year again, only one team gets to be crowned as winners of England’s globally followed Premiership.
What the 2010/2011 season produced
Manchester United are the reigning champions—having collected a total of 80 points (9 more than Chelsea and Manchester City). Meanwhile, one of the big talking points at the end of last season was about Arsenal’s devastated conditions.
FOX Soccer will celebrate its official on-air and online launch of new graphics, logos and sets in style.

The American channel launches all this as Europe’s top leagues resume for the 2011/12 campaign. FOX Soccer’s General Manager, David Nathanson, declared:
“Season Kickoff is highly anticipated by all soccer fans as their favorite teams and players start anew. It's the perfect opportunity to introduce the new FOX Soccer and raise the bar for coverage of the world's most elite competitions.”

The English Premier League is set to resume in about a week’s time. Can Liverpool finish at the top of the table in May 2012?
Liverpool was the undisputed ‘top dog’ in England not too long ago. With five European Cups and 18 league titles, they were considered the best club side that England had produced. Manchester United, however, took over last season when they won their nineteenth league title.
The EPL needs a new champion. After five seasons of watching either Manchester United or Chelsea crowned champions, the league needs a new team to keep it entertaining.
After all, considering that Lille won the league title in France last season and Borussia Dortmund won it in Germany, the task shouldn’t be considered an impossible one for Liverpool.
Community Shield participants Manchester United and Manchester City naturally form some of the greatest rivalry matches in England.
The 2 clubs meet this weekend, in a clash that will have a great effect on both teams’ current status. As the contest usually rewards winners with a considerable boost of confidence ahead of the ensuing season, it will be important for each giant to get the upper hand over the other.
United and City have met 159 times at competitive level, and unsurprisingly, it is the Red Devils who have the edge. Having 66 wins and 50 draws thus far, there is no doubt that the defending English Premier League champions are in a comfortable position to sustain their sovereignty over their city rivals.
Their last 5 matches against the Citizens summed up pretty well the history behind the Manchester derby, with United triumphing thrice, drawing once and losing once. Below, we take a look at video highlights and brief recaps of games between the 2 sides in all competitions since January 2010.
Defending English Premier League champions Manchester United are the annual football contest’s most successful club in history, with 18 titles overall.
The Red Devils had to share their titles in 1965, 1967, 1977 and 1990 with Stevenson Yeats, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool twice respectively - after their games with these opponents ended as draws - with no penalty shootout taking place to decide outright winners. United have featured in all 4 Community Shield matches since 2007, facing Chelsea thrice, and Portsmouth once. 3 of their last appearances had to be decided on penalties; but all in all, the last few years have had positive impacts on the Mancunians’ run in the single-match competition, which was previously referred to as the Charity Shield.
Manchester United come up against FA Cup champions Manchester City on August 7 at the Wembley Stadium, in what could bring them only their second consecutive Community Shield title. Below, we look at their courses in the contest in their last 4 participations.
The English Premier League returns in August with Newcastle United vs Arsenal opening the 2011/2012 campaign on Saturday 13. ESPN UK has promised followers some good coverage of the competition.

Ex-Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has been appointed as the lead analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the English Premier League while Ray Stubbs is set to be the presenter. Among the football analysts throughout the season will also be Steve McManaman as Chris Waddle and Jon Champion will bring live commentary from the commentary box. Exclusive stories from the English Premier League’s players and coaches, meanwhile, will be brought by ESPN match-day reporter Rebecca Lowe.
And there will be more than just the live broadcast of EPL matches. As part of ESPN’s multiplatform coverage of the competition, there is going to be ESPN Goals. This program is a mobile application which will offer to the public ESPN’s exclusive mobile highlight rights for the Barclays Premier League’s 380 matches.
Manchester United face West Bromwich Albion away from home on opening day, with clashes against Spurs and Arsenal following up.
Revised - June 23, 2011
Manchester United will face a tricky start to their 2011-2012 Premier League season with an opening day match at the Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion. Not only that, home clashes against Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will follow up after that. Sir Alex's men then head towards Bolton before they will face another big test in the form of Chelsea, which will only be their fifth match of the season. Indeed it will be a daunting start to their season.
The first match for United will be on August 13 at West Bromwich Albion.
It's match-day 38 in Spain's La Liga, England's Premier League and Italy's Serie A. Live Soccer TV looks at the UEFA Champions League zone in each of these 3 leagues.
Spain’s La Liga & Its 2011/12 UEFA Champions League Contenders
Since the start of the season, the majority of football’s public worldwide had their eyes fixed on the Barcelona-Real Madrid duel at the very top of La Liga’s table. But there is more to the Spanish Primera Division than just these two good old rivals and many certainly missed the intriguing journey of other clubs such as Valencia and Villarreal.
Yet, this duo also stands a chance of representing Spain in Europe’s most prestigious club competition next year—the UEFA Champions League.
As La Liga enters its very final day of the 2010/11 season, there are no battles for spots within the top 4 zone. Put the title race aside; it has already been won by Barcelona. Now, talking about Champions League places, the top 3 have been decided.
Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson is known as an expert of mind games. But despite his expertise, Liverpool coach Kenny Dalglish has warned him not to play against the Reds ahead of Sunday’s match.

“We've both been a long time out of short trousers. It will have to be a good one to catch us out,” Dalglish told The Sun as he referred to Fergie.
“He has used psychology before in the pre-amble to matches. But he will only get sparring practice if he tries it on us.”
The Andy Carroll factor may have a great influence ahead of Sunday’s Liverpool vs Manchester United encounter in the English Premier League.
With a bit of irony, Kenny Dalglish repeated what he had told The Sun on Thursday concerning the inclusion of Carroll in the lineup:
So Aaron Ramsey is expected to kick a ball for Arsenal’s first team at last this weekend. Team news from the Gunners camp ahead of the Sunderland game also tells that Koscielny returns.

This weekend, Arsenal could cut the gap at the top of the English Premier League table to a single point and Wenger has chosen the players that he’ll use in order to attempt doing so. In a pre-match press conference, the Arsenal coach confirmed the availability of defender Laurent Koscielny and of midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
The latter last played for the Gunners in February 2010 whereas Koscielny is said to have recovered from a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Alex Song is among the names that have been ruled out for Saturday’s English Premier League match at home to Sunderland. According to the club’s official website, Coach Arsene Wenger affirmed:
The Blues still dare to dream about winning the EPL title as the doors aren’t closed mathematically. Ahead of the Chelsea vs Manchester United match, the Blues have rekindled their belief.

“This game can make us come back to fight for the title,” striker Fernando Torres was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
“If we win this one, then we are closer to them... and we have will still have one more game against them.”
Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti echoed Fernando Torres’ statements. The Italian manager, who enjoyed life at the top of the English Premier League’s table with the Blues in the early stages of the season, is now under pressure to guide Chelsea in the right direction this term. Concerning his side’s fate in the league, Carlo Ancelotti prefers to think positively although the Blues are currently out of the top 4 zone.
Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs has revealed that he was “p****d off” at seeing Chelsea winning the double last year. As he prepares to celebrate exactly 20 years as a Red Devil, he’s thinking of revenge.

This season, Manchester United’s chances of winning the English Premier League are much brighter than they were last term. The Red Devils seat 4 points clear at the top of the table and they have a 15-point lead above Chelsea who are only in 5th position.
With a victory tonight, Manchester United will not only boost their English Premier League title hopes but also dent Chelsea’s Champions League zone finish aspirations. After enduring the 2009/2010 season in the shadow of the Blues on the domestic front, this is exactly what Ryan Giggs wants to happen. The Manchester United wants the Red Devils to show dominance and to have no mercy on tonight’s hosts as he aims for a sweet revenge.
Chelsea are well behind Manchester United in the English Premier League, and ahead of Tuesday night’s big game Torres expects the Red Devils to make life hard for the Blues.

The £50M signing, who is very familiar with playing against Manchester United, has reminded his Chelsea team mates of the Red Devils’ fury. Fergie’s men are perhaps not playing at their best consistently this season as their many draws in 27 matches may reveal it. However, Chelsea’s Fernando Torres is wary of Manchester United ahead of Tuesday’s meeting at Stamford Bridge.
“They have lost only one game,” the Spaniard told reporters as he commentated on the Red Devils.
“The main thing is that it’s Man United on the top. And even if they are not at their best, they are still challenging for everything this season.
It’s Chelsea vs Manchester United tonight but it won’t be Fernando vs Ferdinand as the Manchester United defender has been ruled out through injury. This has left Torres somehow disappointed.

The Spaniard, who hasn’t netted a single goal for Chelsea so far, is preparing for the action against the English Premier League’s leaders. Fernando Torres had a good record against Manchester United during his time at Liverpool and he’ll hope to add more goals to the ones he’s already scored against the Red Devils.
However, the Chelsea striker would be happier to do so against Manchester United’s strongest defensive line as he believes that one must beat the best to be the best. But with Rio Ferdinand’s confirmed absence from Tuesday night’s match, Fernando Torres feels a bit sad as he told Chelsea’s official website.
Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney has just escaped a three-match ban from England’s FA. The striker will thus have the opportunity to feature in Tuesday’s Chelsea vs Manchester United game.

During last Saturday’s English Premier League encounter away to Wigan Athletic, Wayne Rooney elbowed James McCarthy but managed to avoid a booking as referee Mark Clattenburg only whistled for a free-kick in favour of the Latics.
This provoked Wigan coach Roberto Martinez to launch an attack on Wayne Rooney. Speaking to The Sun after the match, the manager stated:
“I saw the incident clearly and the referee did as well because he gave the free-kick. Once you give a free-kick it is quite clear that it is a red card.
Chelsea are aiming to beat Manchester United at all cost on home soil on Tuesday. But Red Devils defender Chris Smalling has warned the Blues of Man United’s goal scoring forces.

The 21-year-old defender is looking forward to Tuesday’s big showdown against Chelsea at the Bridge with a lot of confidence. The player, who displayed a brilliant performance for the Red Devils against Wigan Athletic last weekend, could be named to face the Blues in London as well.
Following his departure from Fulham, Chris Smalling stands a great opportunity to develop at the very top level and win a trophy as early as this season. In the English Premier League, Manchester United are 4 points clear of second-placed Arsenal while Chelsea are 15 points behind them in 5th position.

John Terry believes that Chelsea still have a narrow chance to defend their English Premier League title despite being 12 points behind league leaders Manchester United...

The Blues captain has based his faith on mathematical probabilities and on Chelsea’s fixtures list which will see them come up against teams that are currently above them in the EPL standings. This huge agenda starts with a home game against Manchester United on March 1.
It follows with two more home games against Manchester City 19 days later and Tottenham Hotspur on April 30 before ending with a crucial away encounter against Manchester United again on May 7. After that, Chelsea will play Newcastle United and Everton to complete their 2010/2011 English Premier League campaign.
According John Terry, 5th placed Chelsea are not dead and buried yet. The skipper is looking at a huge comeback from the Blues in the race for the league title.
