Tags: Didier Drogba, Chelsea, Bayern Munich
Didier Drogba has done it! He has won the UEFA Champions League for Chelsea. The Blues have done it on Bayern's turf. Munich is quiet.
Bayern Munich had much of the ball but failed to take their chances until Thomas Mueller knocked in a solid header from close range 8 minutes from time. Ashley Cole and Petr Cech were left with no option but to watch as the ball crossed the goal line.

Roberto Di Matteo chose to bring on Fernando Torres. The latter quickly made an impact by winning a corner for the Blues. At the relief of Chelsea fans, it resulted in a splendid equalizer through Didier Drogba.

The game went into extra-time. Bayern Munich had a glorious chance of stealing victory when Drogba turned from hero to villain. The Chelsea striker fouled Ribery and conceded a penalty in the process.

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Champions League final: Beware of ‘actor’ Didier Drogba

Saturday May 19 2012,
Tags: Didier Drogba, Jupp Heynckes, Roberto Di Matteo
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba could force Bayern Munich to create a special game plan in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League final.
Didier Drogba played a huge part getting Chelsea to the final this season. The veteran striker produced a man-of-the-match performance against Napoli in the Round of 16 to help his team turn around a 3-1 first-leg deficit.

In the semi-finals against Barcelona, Drogba gave a 1-0 advantage to the Blues with a goal at Stamford Bridge. At the Camp Nou, he showed his defensive skills as his team secured a vital 2-2 draw.

Earlier this month, Didier Drogba fired Chelsea to FA Cup glory at Wembley at the expense of Liverpool. Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes is wary of the harm Drogba could cause to the Germans in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League final.

Recap: Bayern München’s UEFA Champions League road back to Munich

Tuesday May 15 2012,
Tags: Bayern München, UEFA Champions League
It started in Munich and it will end in Munich for Bayern- let’s take a look at Bayern’s fantastic journey to the final.

Bayern Munich made it to the final of the UEFA Champions League after beating Real Madrid on penalties in the semi-finals.Bayern’s journey truly began in the last five match-days of the previous season. Bayern was struggling in the Bundesliga and was fighting Hanover for third spot and hence the Champions qualifying spot. Having sacked Louis Van Gaal, the Bayern management decided to allow his assistant Andries Jonker to take over. In their last five games, Bayern recorded four wins (1-8 vs. St. Pauli, 5-1 vs. Leverkusen, 4-1 vs. Schalke and 2-1 vs. Stuttgart) and one draw against Frankfurt.

That last match against Stuttgart in the 2010-11 season of the Bundesliga saw Bayern win and officially claim third place. Their journey in the Champions hence started in August, much before their fellow finalists Chelsea’s one started. They have played 14 matches already in the Champions League this season with one still left to play.

2012 Champions League Final: Players tasked to shine for Bayern Munich to succeed

Monday May 14 2012,
Tags: Bayern Munich, Chelsea, UEFA Champions League
For Bayern this season, most of the wins have been down to a collective effort.
Arguably, Bayern produced their best performances in the group stages. An injury to Bastian Schweinsteiger and the return of Arjen Robben to action changed much of the dynamics of the team. When the news of Robben’s injury came through early in the season, there was really no sign of ‘doom and gloom’ in the club.

The formation without Robben saw Schweinsteiger line up alongside Luiz Gustavo in defensive midfield. The midfield trio consisted of Thomas Müller, who will now surely be starting the final after sitting on the bench in the semis, Toni Kroos and Franck Ribery.

Ribery produced his best ever form since the 2007-08 season while Schweinsteiger was at the peak of his powers. At the back, Holger Badstuber partnered Daniel Van Buyten in central defence while Philipp Lahm and Jerome Boateng played on either side of them.

FC Bayern’s Rise from its Dark Period between 2002 and 2010

Saturday May 12 2012,
Tags: Bayern
Every great club has its period of darkness. Bayern recovered from this period in 2010; the darkness was such that many suspected they would not recover.
2009 is remembered by many for the triumph of one of the most complete Barcelona sides in living memory in the Champions League. En route to the final, Barcelona took out Bayern in the quarter-finals. Before Bayern even knew what was going on, Barca had knocked in four past them in the first leg in Camp Nou. That night, Bayern officials, players and fans truly bowed their heads in shame. The defeat came just a year after an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Zenit in the UEFA Cup semi-finals.

Stefan Effenberg lifted the coveted Champions League trophy in 2001 following some great saves by Oliver Kahn in a penalty shoot-out. That turned out to be Bayern’s last final or even semi-final in the Champions League for nine long years. While domestic trophies continued to come, Bayern became a lesser power in the Champions League. They weren’t even regarded a serious threat by teams which dominated between 2002 and 2010.

DFB Pokal Final: Dortmund looks to secure a first domestic double by beating Bayern once again.

Thursday May 10 2012,
Tags: Bayern, Dortmund
Bayern and Dortmund takes on each other for one final battle on a neutral venue.
Dortmund has burned records that Bayern previously owned and taken away the ugly salad bowl from their grasp for two seasons in a row. Dortmund has a unique chance to achieve their first ever double in history by beating a side they have beaten in their last four meetings. But beating Bayern in Berlin is perhaps a tad harder than beating Bayern at the Signal Iduna Park.

Die Roten and Berlin have a special connection. Bayern won their last trophies in memory in Berlin. In 2010, they were crowned champions in Hertha Berlin’s backyard, the Olympiastadion. Shortly afterwards, they hammered Bremen in the Cup final to secure the double. Bayern this year has a chance of winning two trophies. Their quest in finals starts in Berlin.

Who are Bayern's suspended players and why will they be missed?

Thursday May 10 2012,
Tags: Bayern
Heading to the Champions League final on May 19th, Bayern München finds themselves with a long list of suspensions.
Coming into the second leg of the semi-finals, the list of Bayern players a yellow card away from suspension in the final included the following names: Philipp Lahm, Holger Badstuber, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Toni Kroos, Luiz Gustavo and Thomas Müller. In other words, had luck turned against them in Madrid, Jupp Heynckes would have to bring up players from Bayern II in order to field a line-up in the final.

In the end, Bayern found themselves slightly unlucky to have three players suspended for the final. Alaba was shown a yellow card for handball within the first few minutes of the game. Replays showed Alaba was trying to ensure he didn’t fall awkwardly. Viktor Kassai, the referee in the game, did a fine job overall though. Two Bayern players were shown yellow cards in extra time: Badstuber and Gustavo.

A Look Back at the Bundesliga Season that Was

Monday May 7 2012,
Tags: Dortmund, Bayern, Koln, Hamburg, Ausgburg, Monchengladbach, Schalke
Köln’s seasons went up in flames as a Bundesliga giant managed to keep their status despite a season of struggles.

Since the inception of the Bundesliga in 1963, only one team has represented it every season- Hamburger SV. Their status as the Bundesliga’s ‘dinosaur’ was being seriously threatened as Frank Arnesen brought along a line of Chelsea youngsters to represent the Germans. Arnesen almost contradicted the statements he had earlier made about...

Match day 34- A day of goodbyes in the Bundesliga

Friday May 4 2012,
Tags: Köln, Bayern, Hertha, Schalke
Last week, Senor Raul Gonzalez and Michael Ballack brought an end to their careers in the Bundesliga. This week, the prodigal son of Köln will be playing his final match in Germany’s top-flight.
‘Revenge is a dish best served cold.’ This saying might run true in Berlin this week as Hoffenheim visits. Hertha will be at their knees hoping that Bayern and Markus Babel help them survive in the top flight. Just one season after their promotion, they will most likely depart the Bundesliga, leaving Germany without a club from its capital in its premier league.

Hertha went downhill ever since Babel was shown the door on Match-day 17 following a match against his current club. That day the score was 1-1. A draw won’t be enough for Hertha to grab the relegation play-off spot this time. A win for them coupled with a loss for Köln against a Bayern side challenging on two fronts will see Hertha finish 16th.

A Look Ahead to the Bundesliga this Weekend

Friday April 27 2012,
Tags: Bayern, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Schalke, Monchengladbach
The Champions League spots are almost settled but there is still quite a lot to fight for at the bottom.
The top two sides in the league are Bayern and Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund has already won the league while Bayern has already made second place their own. Bayern has nothing to play for in the league in the last two remaining games. However, the players and board alike feel that their fans always deserve a good performance.

They were true to their words in Bremen, when, despite fielding a side filled with reserve players, they claimed a 1-2 victory last week. This week, Bayern plays the final home game in the league and their second last home game of the season. Their final home game will be against Chelsea in the Champions League final on May 19th.

In the aftermath of Barca and Madrid’s UCL exit: Spanish football and El Clasico

Whereas the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League season is over for Spain’s two giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid, the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League is certain have a Spanish club in the final.

No Real Madrid and Barcelona clash in the final of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League.Total disillusion for Spanish club football?

Between Atletico Madrid and Valencia, one team will advance to meet Sporting Lisbon or Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final. For the sake of Spanish football from a patriotic Spaniard’s point of view, it is believed that the pressure is on Bilbao to assure that the cup will go to Spain whatever happens in Bucharest on May 9.

As things stand, Sporting Lisbon are in a good position to leave Portugal’s Iberian neighbours empty handed in Europe this year. Going into Thursday night’s encounter in San Mames, the Lions lead 2-1 from their first-leg win against Copa del Rey finalists Athletic Bilbao.

Bayern Munich are one match away from joining Chelsea for the Champions League Final on May 19, 2012, providing they can obtain a positive result against Real Madrid today.

Ribery and Robben celebrateA draw at the Bernabeu will take the Bavarians back home to the Allianz where this year's Champions League Final takes place. Real Madrid prepare for the biggest battle in their Champions League campaign as they look to overturn a 2-1 loss from the first leg of this semi-final in Germany. Ozil got the crucial away goal which will help Los Blancos if advancement comes down to goal-differential.

Bayern Munich were impressive in the first leg, putting immense pressure on Jose Mourinho's men, who were practically pinned back to their goal in the final portions of the first-leg. Real Madrid managed to equalize 1-1 with an Ozil goal, and were sitting on this result close to the end. But a last minute lapse by Portuguese defender Coentrao permitted Phillip Lahm to cross the ball to Gomez from the right flank, the latter simply poked the ball into the back of the net giving Bayern Munich the win.

Can Bayern München halt Madrid from a chance at claiming 'La Decima'?

Tuesday April 24 2012,
Tags: Bayern München, Real Madrid
‘La Decima’ is the phrase on the lips of every Real fan. For Bayern fans, the dream of a possible home final is still alive.
Real Madrid has won the Spanish Classico. They have beaten Barca at the Nou Camp prior to the European Classico against Bayern on Wednesday. Real has virtually claimed the league title. While Jose Mourinho will not be winning a treble this season, he can still win a double. This time Mourinho has to do something different; he has to come from behind to beat Bayern.

A 2-1 deficit is nothing to be worried about. However, FC Bayern learnt from that match that even with an average display from their attackers and with a consistent display from their defence, they can bring Real down. Many experts came out and labeled the performance as a ‘poor’ one from Real.
