Bayern Munich had much of the ball but failed to take their chances until Thomas Mueller knocked in a solid header from close range 8 minutes from time. Ashley Cole and Petr Cech were left with no option but to watch as the ball crossed the goal line.
Didier Drogba played a huge part getting Chelsea to the final this season. The veteran striker produced a man-of-the-match performance against Napoli in the Round of 16 to help his team turn around a 3-1 first-leg deficit.

GK: Petr Cech (12 games, 0 goals)
The Czech was in stunning form in the semi-finals against Barcelona, and was much of the reason why Chelsea advanced to the final. The 1.98-metre tall goalkeeper could possibly be the busiest player on the field on Saturday.
CB: Gary Cahill (4 games, 0 goals)

1) Take advantage of their counter-attacking soccer
The Blues advanced to the final of the Champions League in stunning fashion, as despite being outplayed over two legs by Barcelona they still managed to progress 3-2 on aggregate. In fact, Barca needed to score two more goals to eliminate them. Many brought Chelsea's success down to the fact...
Bayern’s journey truly began in the last five match-days of the previous season. Bayern was struggling in the Bundesliga and was fighting Hanover for third spot and hence the Champions qualifying spot. Having sacked Louis Van Gaal, the Bayern management decided to allow his assistant Andries Jonker to take over. In their last five games, Bayern recorded four wins (1-8 vs. St. Pauli, 5-1 vs. Leverkusen, 4-1 vs. Schalke and 2-1 vs. Stuttgart) and one draw against Frankfurt.
That last match against Stuttgart in the 2010-11 season of the Bundesliga saw Bayern win and officially claim third place. Their journey in the Champions hence started in August, much before their fellow finalists Chelsea’s one started. They have played 14 matches already in the Champions League this season with one still left to play.
Arguably, Bayern produced their best performances in the group stages. An injury to Bastian Schweinsteiger and the return of Arjen Robben to action changed much of the dynamics of the team. When the news of Robben’s injury came through early in the season, there was really no sign of ‘doom and gloom’ in the club.

2009 is remembered by many for the triumph of one of the most complete Barcelona sides in living memory in the Champions League. En route to the final, Barcelona took out Bayern in the quarter-finals. Before Bayern even knew what was going on, Barca had knocked in four past them in the first leg in Camp Nou. That night, Bayern officials, players and fans truly bowed their heads in shame. The defeat came just a year after an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Zenit in the UEFA Cup semi-finals.
Dortmund has burned records that Bayern previously owned and taken away the ugly salad bowl from their grasp for two seasons in a row. Dortmund has a unique chance to achieve their first ever double in history by beating a side they have beaten in their last four meetings. But beating Bayern in Berlin is perhaps a tad harder than beating Bayern at the Signal Iduna Park.
Coming into the second leg of the semi-finals, the list of Bayern players a yellow card away from suspension in the final included the following names: Philipp Lahm, Holger Badstuber, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Toni Kroos, Luiz Gustavo and Thomas Müller. In other words, had luck turned against them in Madrid, Jupp Heynckes would have to bring up players from Bayern II in order to field a line-up in the final.
Since the inception of the Bundesliga in 1963, only one team has represented it every season- Hamburger SV. Their status as the Bundesliga’s ‘dinosaur’ was being seriously threatened as Frank Arnesen brought along a line of Chelsea youngsters to represent the Germans. Arnesen almost contradicted the statements he had earlier made about...
‘Revenge is a dish best served cold.’ This saying might run true in Berlin this week as Hoffenheim visits. Hertha will be at their knees hoping that Bayern and Markus Babel help them survive in the top flight. Just one season after their promotion, they will most likely depart the Bundesliga, leaving Germany without a club from its capital in its premier league.
The top two sides in the league are Bayern and Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund has already won the league while Bayern has already made second place their own. Bayern has nothing to play for in the league in the last two remaining games. However, the players and board alike feel that their fans always deserve a good performance.
Total disillusion for Spanish club football?
Between Atletico Madrid and Valencia, one team will advance to meet Sporting Lisbon or Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final. For the sake of Spanish football from a patriotic Spaniard’s point of view, it is believed that the pressure is on Bilbao to assure that the cup will go to Spain whatever happens in Bucharest on May 9.
As things stand, Sporting Lisbon are in a good position to leave Portugal’s Iberian neighbours empty handed in Europe this year. Going into Thursday night’s encounter in San Mames, the Lions lead 2-1 from their first-leg win against Copa del Rey finalists Athletic Bilbao.
A draw at the Bernabeu will take the Bavarians back home to the Allianz where this year's Champions League Final takes place. Real Madrid prepare for the biggest battle in their Champions League campaign as they look to overturn a 2-1 loss from the first leg of this semi-final in Germany. Ozil got the crucial away goal which will help Los Blancos if advancement comes down to goal-differential.
Bayern Munich were impressive in the first leg, putting immense pressure on Jose Mourinho's men, who were practically pinned back to their goal in the final portions of the first-leg. Real Madrid managed to equalize 1-1 with an Ozil goal, and were sitting on this result close to the end. But a last minute lapse by Portuguese defender Coentrao permitted Phillip Lahm to cross the ball to Gomez from the right flank, the latter simply poked the ball into the back of the net giving Bayern Munich the win.
Real Madrid has won the Spanish Classico. They have beaten Barca at the Nou Camp prior to the European Classico against Bayern on Wednesday. Real has virtually claimed the league title. While Jose Mourinho will not be winning a treble this season, he can still win a double. This time Mourinho has to do something different; he has to come from behind to beat Bayern.
