German and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has signed a contract extension with his Bundesliga heavyweights, putting pen to paper on an extension that will see him remain at the Iduna Signal Park until 2016. Gundogan, who is still absent from his side due to a lengthy injury, has now officially doused rumors of a possible Dortmund exit.

This news may come as a disappointment to the many clubs that sought out after the Die Schwarzgelben midfielder's signature. Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Barcelona were all reported to be after him but it was David Moyes' side who were believed to be in pole position to secure his services. Looking for summer recruits in order to reinstate the Red Devils as English Premier League conquerers, Gundogan was believed to be high up on United's summer transfer list.
