After a big win last week Tottenham will take on relegation battlers West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Saturday, the 12th of April in a Premier League encounter.

Preview: West Brom hopeful of moving away from the relegation zone

Two wins in the last four games have ensured that the Baggies remain five points clear of 18th placed Fulham who currently occupy the final relegation spot. Pepe Mel who replaced Steve Clarke at the helm has played a vital role and should be given credit if his side is to avoid relegation this season.

Their 1-0 victory over Norwich City last time out has allowed them to leapfrog the canaries in the league table, but the relegation battle is hardly over for the throstles who are yet to play Manchester City and Arsenal in the league.

They will be against a buoyant Tottenham side which scored a morale boosting 5-1 win over relegation favorites Sunderland amidst all the speculation surrounding the sacking of Spurs head coach Tim Sherwood by the end of the season. According to reports the Englishman will be replaced by Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal before the start of next season. However Sherwood and his men seemed unfazed by all the speculation and produced one of their best performances of the campaign when they subjected Sunderland to a 5-1 loss.

Lee Cattermole opened up the scoring for the visitors but any doubts of the Black Cats pulling off an upset were put to rest as Tottenham responded by scoring five goals. Adebayor who has been Tottenham’s outstanding performer this season rounded off another incredible outing with a brace. The Togo international has recently acclaimed his manager praising Sherwood for giving him confidence and is hopeful that the 45 year old tactician will remain at the club beyond this season.

"I am playing and scoring goals, I would hope he stays," Adebayor said.

"When everyone forgot about me he gave me back my life. I am very grateful and I owe a big thanks to him.

"But I am not the chairman or the owner of the club. No matter what happens I am a professional footballer and just want to do my job for the club.”

Sherwood on the other hand has chosen not pay heed to the rumors and has insisted that he will do everything in his power to ensure that his players perform to the best of their abilities till the end of the season.

"The speculation you can not stop - it has always been there from the moment I took over to where we are now," he said.

"It is up to the football club to answer the questions and I am really going to be professional and worry about the players on the pitch and getting the best out of them between now and the end of the season.”

Arsenal’s faltering form as of late will be a source of inspiration for Spurs and a victory on Saturday could put them just two points behind their North London rivals with the Gunners not scheduled to play a Premier League match this weekend owing to their FA Cup commitments.

Tottenham have injury concerns over defensive duo Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker, who are major doubts for the trip to The Hawthorns, whereas Michael Dawson and Roberto Soldado have been ruled out of the match.

West Brom captain Chris Brunt who featured for the under-21 side last Saturday could play a part in the match if midfielder James Morrison fails to recover from his ankle injury. Jones on the other hand will be available for selection after recovering from his hamstring injury. Claudio Yacob could also make a return to the side but Zoltan Gera will remain sidelined.

For West Brom to ensure they stay in the Premier League another season, the baggies will have to improve their home form having failed to score a victory in any of their last five league games at the Hawthorns. However their winless streak is likely to stretch with Tottenham’s talismanic striker Emmanuel Adebayor boasting an incredible away form which has seen him score 10 of his 15 goals away from White Hart Lane. Furthermore Spurs have not lost to the Baggies in the last eight meetings between the two teams which makes matters worse for Pepe Mel’s side.
