At the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Uruguay will contest in Group D – also seen as the ‘Group of Death’ alongside Group G. Qualification for the Last 16 appears to be a daunting task with Wayne Rooney’s England, CONCACAF’s Costa Rica, and 2013 Confederations Cup bronze winners Italy all competing.

Sunderland coach Gus Poyet was speaking to Radio Yorkshire when he singled out La Celeste Olimpica and prolific goalscorer Luis Suarez to create wonders in Brazil.

“Suarez is a player that you don't want to play against. He is a player that if you want to buy one player now in England, you would probably want to buy him because you know that he is going to give you something extra,” Poyet explained.

Group D - 2014 World Cup

“I think before these kinds of competitions - World Cup, Copa America, Confederations Cup - the [Uruguay] team gets together and the group really clicks together and we become very difficult to play against.”

The former Uruguayan international concluded on this matter:

“And of course, having the main players available, Luis Suarez, Cavani, even Diego Forlan is going to be there. To be in that possibility to go and create something is special. We will be a difficult team to play against.”

At the beginning of the season, Luis Suarez had to miss several Premier League games due to the ban he received for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season. Despite this setback, the Liverpool striker has been breaking records for fun.
