Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed the reasons why his London team did not sign Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure. The Ivorian was given a trial at Arsenal F.C. at 2003 and could have joined the Gunners, but nothing materialized, with Toure ending up moving to Ukraine. The Frenchman has finally revealed more into the why he hasn't worn an Arsenal shirt.

This comments of Le Prof comes ahead of Manchester City, the club Yaya Toure does play for, and Arsenal's square off in the English Premier League on Saturday. The North London side lost their previous encounter with the Manchester side 6-3 and are now fighting to maintain their Champions League spot thanks to their recent loss to Chelsea and draw with Swansea.

"It would be up at the top [of my list of regrets],” said Wenger. “But let's not forget that Yaya Toure had an agreement with us - and it's not because we did not want to sign him that he went to Ukraine.”

“We needed to wait for his passport in Belgium. We have made mistakes but he is not a mistake, it's just the fact that he preferred to go to Metalurh Donetsk. He could go there without any passport.”

On discussing the task of stopping Yaya Toure and Co. this Saturday, Wenger said:

“You cannot deal with everybody individually because all the players are good,” he said. “I believe it's down to our collective defending - the quality of our collective defending that will make the difference.”

Yaya Toure currently plays for English rivals Manchester City where he is enjoying a good spell, having already won two Capital One Cups and an English Premier League title since joining the Citizens in 2010.
