Aston Villa will be hoping to take full advantage of Man United’s stuttering form at home when they face the defending league champions at the Old Trafford.

Man United vs Aston VillaPreview: Moyes hoping to relieve pressure with a win

Pressure seems to be mounting on United’s Scottish manager David Moyes who has guided the Red Devils to their worst campaign in the Premier League era. The defending champions are currently 18 points behind league leaders Chelsea and are 12 points shy of a place in the top four. Moreover United’s 3-0 loss to arch rivals Manchester City was their 10th defeat of the season, another first for a club which has won the league title a record 20 times.

Man United are now on the verge of ending the season with their lowest points total since the inception of the competition back in 1992. Their previous worst 75 points was enough to win them the title in 1997 and third place in 2004. However a place in the top four now seems a very distant dream.

United have now suffered consecutive 3-0 defeats at home in the league to two of their most bitter rivals. A 3-0 battering at the hands of Liverpool was followed by a mauling at the hands of Man City by the same score line. The disappointing results were cushioned by consecutive victories against Olympiakos Piraeus and West Ham but the Man United faithful have seemingly lost their patience with David Moyes and are planting a protest against their new manager which is likely to make life even worse for the Scotsman.

It has been reported that a section of Man United fans have collected close to a thousand pounds to fund a plane to hover over the Old Trafford during Saturday’s match carrying a message which reads: 'Wrong One - Moyes Out', a direct response to another banner inside the Old Trafford which regards Moyes as the ‘chosen one’.

Paul Lambert however has spoken in support of his counterpart and has insisted the Man United faithful should be patient with their manager and not resort to extreme measures.

"He is trying his best for Manchester United, the way I am for Aston Villa," Lambert told reporters.

"It comes with the territory. In the modern game, you are always one bad result away from being absolutely criticised.

"In years gone by you probably would have got a lot of time, but now the success people want is instant.

"But if you are talking about flying an aeroplane over the stadium with a message to say you are not wanted, it is a bit extreme.

"I think some of the criticism is way over the top, I really do.”

Aston Villa on the other hand have been very inconsistent as of late but will be content with their current league position having distanced themselves from the relegation zone. The Villans are currently 12th with a game in hand and have a nine point lead over 18th placed Sunderland.
Villla scored a morale boosting 1-0 victory over Chelsea on the ides of March but were unable to carry the momentum to their next match as they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hand of Stoke.

However United need to be wary of Paul Lambert’s side who have a tendency to do well against big clubs. Apart from their victory against Chelsea early in the month, Villa also held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw back in January and defeated Arsenal in their first game of the season.

Benteke is one player who can cause a lot of trouble to a United defence which is quite low on confidence. The Belgian made a poor start to the season but has now seemed to rediscover his old form having scored thrice in the last three games.

Man United on the other hand are severely short on defenders with all of Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans major doubts for the match. The Red Devils will also be without talismanic striker Robin Van Persie who has been ruled out with a knee injury.

Aston Villa have a few injury concerns of their own and will be without Andreas Weimann who has been suffering with a thigh injury as well as Karim El Ahmadi who has a muscle injury. Whereas long term absentees Libor Kozak, Jores Okore and Charles N'Zogbia are all on a road to recovery but only Okore is close to a return.

The last two meetings between both the sides ended in 3-0 victories for the Red Devils. The same fixture last season resulted in Man United being crowned champions for the 20th time, however there will be no celebrations this time around as Moyes desperately looks for a win.
