Los Rojiblancos need just 90 minutes to secure their place in the next round. The Rossoneri have 90 minutes to salvage their European campaign. Who will prevail on Tuesday?

Atletico - MilanPreview: Los Rojiblancos host the Rossoneri in a make or break clash for both sides

It will be a tale of two polar opposites when Atletico Madrid host AC Milan on Tuesday evening in the second leg of their Champions League tie. The Rojiblancos have gone from strength to strength so far this season in both domestic and continental campaigns.

They have been keeping pace with the powerhouses of Barcelona and Real Madrid so far, much to many observers' surprise and transformed the title race into a much more exciting one this year. And in Europe, they comfortably finished top of their group with 16 points, joint-tied with city rivals Real for the most in the group stages and outscored their opponents by 15 to 3.

In terms of their opponents, they were honestly handed one of the less threatening ones--at least on paper--in Milan. Gone are the days that the 7-time CL champions are considered one of Europe's powerhouses, and even the most passionate Diavolo fan would be naive not to admit that this is currently a rebuilding stage for the club, so it is going to be some time before one sees any silverware being celebrated on the red and black side of Milan.

Whilst their opponents are serious contenders for the league title, Clarence Seedorf's men currently languish in mid-table, with a massive 37 point gap between them and league leaders Juventus. Simply put, the gap between them and the Bianconeri is greater than the total points (35) they have earned all season. Dumped out of the Coppa Italia by Udinese--the same side that defeated them on Saturday, the Rossoneri will be coming into this match needing to turn things around as even qualifying for the Europa League is an increasingly distant possibility at this point.

Under former coach Massimiliano Allegri, they just squeaked through their group with nine points and were fortunate that Ajax could not take advantage of having a man up for most of the game in match day six. Still, their new manager is optimistic about his side's chances, declaring, "We need to keep thinking positively and working hard. And we need to be convinced in our abilities to be able to put in a good performance to turn things around".

Interestingly, Seedorf and Diego Simeone are also familiar to each other from their playing days, with the Argentinian coach having played for Milan's arch rivals Inter as well as Serie A's Lazio and eventually for the Rojiblancos whilst the Dutchman featured for Real Madrid and at one point, the Nerazzurri as well.

The hosts will certainly be feeling good after David Villa's double over the weekend gave them a victory over Celta Vigo heading into the match with a slim 1-0 advantage. Expressing his satisfaction with the win, Simeone stated, "It feeds our confidence and we're looking good for the end of the season". Although hitman Diego Costa was suspended for league play, the Brazilian-born Spanish international will be keen to add to his tally which has seen him net four times in five outings as Atletico look to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time since back in 1997.

As for Milan, Mario Balotelli will be expected to feature and lead the line and Kaka, who was rested for the clash with Udinese will be likely also part of the starting XI. Riccardo Montolivo is still suspended for his red card against Ajax, but other from that, no other key players are expected to miss out.

Although the pressure is certainly on the Diavolo as this will be their last Champions League appearance for at least another season, the hosts will certainly also be feeling some pressure of their own as they look to progress and put on a good showing in front of their home support.

Expect both sides to go all out as they look to secure a place in the quarter-finals, and although Atletico hold the advantage, it is not over until the final whistle is blown.
