The two Premier League giants will go head to head for a second time this month, this time in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the Etihad Stadium.

Preview: City looking for revenge against league leaders

Mourinho outsmarted his Chilean counterpart last time the two sides met as Chelsea raced to a 1-0 victory over Man City and thus becoming the only English side to beat the Citizens at their own backyard this season. Now the Blues will look forward to achieving the feat for the second time within a span of a month as the two sides lock horns at the Etihad once again.

It took a ferocious strike from Branislav Ivanovic  to clinch all three points for the Blues as the Serbian full back scored the only goal of the match.

Despite the fact that Chelsea looked the better side over the course of 90 minutes, Man City manager Manuel Pellegrini has rubbished claims that it was a tactical error which caused his side the game and three points as a result.

“I am absolutely sure that in the previous game it was not a problem with tactics. We had three or four clear chances before they scored. If we'd scored we could have scored again,” said the Man City boss.

“In the first game we played with two midfielders like that: [Martin] Demichelis and Yaya Toure. We had 64 percent of possession. It's important to be balanced when you are attacking.”

The former Malaga manager has been recently involved in a war of words with Jose Mourinho and would want to get the better of the Portuguese this time around keeping in mind that Pellegrini has managed just a single victory in seven managerial meetings with Mourinho. However Pellegrini has labelled this particular statistic as being unimportant keeping in mind that he was managing a relatively smaller team back then.

“I don't play against Mourinho. The record you are talking about is Malaga against Real Madrid sometimes. If you take the average of that fixture you will see Madrid normally beat Malaga. We beat Madrid once.”

The Chilean will have the advantage of having a fresher set of players with City’s midweek Premier League clash against Sunderland postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Pellegrini will now be hoping he can take this into advantage as he heads into the match against a Chelsea side who are unbeaten in their last 12 matches and have won eight of their last ten.

However the Blues did not have much luck in their last match as they were held to a 1-1 draw against West Brom, with Victor Anichebe scoring the equaliser late into the match. Mourinho will be hoping his star man Eden Hazard can produce the goods once again. The Belgian has been in a rich vein of form with his manager comparing him to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi. The former Lille man produced a stellar performance last time the two sides met and caused a lot of menace in the opposition half.

Man City on the other hand will be without their star man with Sergio Aguero unable to play part in tonight’s fixture or the midweek blockbuster against Barcelona as he nurses his hamstring injury. City have failed to score in both their last two matches and gravely miss their talismanic forward.

Meanwhile City will be boosted by the return of French international Samir Nasri who has returned to training, however it remains to be seen whether the former Arsenal man will be fit enough to feature during Saturday’s clash. Javi Garcia is also set to return but midfielder Fernandinho (groin) and centre-back Matija Nastasic (knee) will both miss out on the home fixture against Chelsea.

Chelsea on the other hand could welcome back captain John Terry back into the squad who suffered a muscular problem but could make the trip to Manchester. However his compatriot Gary Cahill has been ruled out of the match as a result of a calf injury.

Both City and Chelsea have tasted relative success in the FA Cup in recent times, with either of the two teams making appearances in the final of the competition in the last five seasons. Chelsea have managed to make the most out of this, having won the competition on three occasions with Man City winning once after they lost to Wigan in the FA Cup final last year.
