Manchester City will have a chance to leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the table when they face another North London side Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane.

Preview: Spurs looking for revenge after humiliation at Etihad

The Lilywhites were thoroughly outclassed last time the two sides met earlier in the season. Man City who have been breathtakingly good at home displayed a near to perfect performance as they recorded a 6-0 victory over the North London side.

Even though Tottenham recorded 13 shots during the game compared to City’s 15, Pellegrini's side was much more clinical and recorded a win in exemplary fashion.

From then onwards former manager Andre Villa Boas was sacked following another mauling at the hands of Liverpool and with new manager Tim Sherwood now at the helm Tottenham can fancy their chances going into the match.

Under the former Tottenham midfielder, Spurs are undefeated in the league and have won all of their last four matches. Spurs have put reassuring performances under their new manager and Sherwood himself has claimed that his current side is not the same which conceded six against City last time out and that Tottenham will be looking for a much improved performance against the league’s top scorers.

"A lot of the boys who are playing at the moment weren't even in the frame [for selection] then," said the Spurs manager.

"The team has improved itself. It's just about giving some belief and confidence to the players. It's not looking from where they were to where they are now, it's just putting my stamp on it and they've taken it on board and the results have been good.”

The 44 year old further claimed that his team will do best to restrain City’s outstanding attacking force and at the same time keep their defenders on their toes as well.

"But I think we also need to see if there's anything we can do to affect them. And there is. There will be weaknesses in their play and hopefully we can try and exploit some of them," he added.

"Their biggest strength, Man City, is when they attack. So let's hope that we can try and make them defend as much as possible."

Tottenham’s major attacking threat will come from former Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international was frozen out in the team by AVB, but under new management he has featured more often, something which has reaped benefits for Sherwood and co, with Adebayor scoring six goals in eight games in all competitions for Spurs.

Last time the two sides met at the White Hart Lane, the home side recorded a 3-1 win over the Citizens and will need a similar performance if they are to keep their top four hopes alive.
However for Tottenham to get the better of Man City, it will take a performance of the season from Sherwood’s men. The Citizens have been rampant so far and have dispatched 110 goals in all competitions this season.

Summer signing Alvaro Negredo who has scored 23 of these has been missing due to a shoulder injury but is in contention to be in the squad for the match at White Hart Lane. His strike partner Sergio Aguero is also returning to full fitness having scored in all four matches since his return including a hat-trick against Watford last time out. The combination of the deadly duo scored three against Spurs last time the two sides met and the Tottenham defense should be wary of the threat they can pose.

City were given a scare in their last outing when they faced Championship side Watford in the FA Cup. The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the first half only for City to respond by scoring four and securing qualification to the next round of the competition.

The Sky Blues are unbeaten in their last 19 games and have won 16 during their unbeaten streak. A victory on Wednesday will take them to the top of the table with Arsenal having dropped points against Southampton yesterday.

Spanish playmaker David Silva is set to return after recovering from his hamstring injury whereas Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho who were rested for the FA Cup tie are expected to return to the starting line-up.

Tottenham are set to welcome a number of players back to the squad with midfielder Paulinho, winger Andros Townsend and defender Jan Vertonghen all expected to make it to the squad. Younes Kaboul on the other hand has not regained match fitness and will be a doubt for the match along with Brazilian midfielder Sandro.
