The congested fixture list has taken its toll on the Reds who are in dire need of adding more depth to their squad plagued by injuries.

Mohamed Salah poised to complete Liverpool moveDespite not featuring in European football, today’s football fixture lists are so congested especially in the Premier League that not having a deep squad can ruin a team’s chances of acquiring its preseason goals.

And Liverpool, after making an excellent start to the Premier League campaign, risk undoing all good they have achieved these past few months due to injuries to key players and not having enough players for a particular department. For this reason, Brendan Rodgers needs to identify players he can target in the January transfer window and bring them to Anfield in order to address this concern.

Defense

In defense, Liverpool are without a proper left-back with Jose Enrique out injured. Due to the absence of the former Newcastle United star, Rodgers has been forced to use the likes of John Flanagan, Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Agger in that position. The arrival of Aly Cissokho did change things but the Frenchman’s performances have not inspired confidence which makes it important to sign a left-back this January.

One of the more acquirable targets for this particular position would be Chelsea younger Ryan Bertrand who has a lot of experience in Premier League and is not able to make the starting XI position his own under Jose Mourinho. The youngster looks a long way away from displacing either Ashley Cole or Cesar Azpilicueta which means he might be willing to make the switch to Merseyside in order to get more game time.

A new winger

The loan move for Victor Moses has not worked out at all with the Nigerian not playing at the level he can. Currently, the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling have done well on either flanks but the former is more productive as an attacking midfielder which is the reason why Rodgers has to bring in another winger.

Young Egyptian star, Mohamed Salah has long been linked with a move to Anfield and apparently, the Basel star’s arrival is 99 per cent certain. The youngster is a natural wide player, is left-footed, has great crossing ability and at the age of 21, has kept on improving his performances. Salah can score and make goals and is going to be a creative presence in the team which makes him a must have for the Reds manager this January.

A defensive midfielder

Not having a natural midfielder, born with the ability to act as a link between the defense and attack has cost Liverpool a few times this season and it is about time that Rodgers spends some money in the market to bring in a central defensive midfielder who knows how to tackle, break up play and distribute the ball.

In the shape of France international Maxime Gonalons, he might get all that. A product of Olympique Lyonnais’ youth academy, Gonalons is one of the finest midfielders in France and is not going to cost Liverpool a fortune at just 10 million pounds. However, the Reds must hurry as the player is also attracting a lot of interest from Napoli.
