Chelsea face a tricky fixture ahead as they face Michael Laudrup’s Swansea City on Boxing day in a Premier League encounter.

Preview: Mourinho looking for a win after Arsenal stalemate

A much awaited London derby saw Arsenal and Chelsea battle it out to a goal-less draw in a match where Mourinho’s side seemed content with just a single point. Similar to the match against Manchester United earlier in the season, Mourinho came out with a defensive plan which was enough for his side to secure a draw.

"It was a tactical match," Mourinho said.

"A match that Arsenal want to win but didn't want to lose and Chelsea wants to win but doesn't want to lose.

"We were not aggressive enough to attack defenders and go for the goal. We want creative players who use the ball and kill opponents.”

"But there are some matches where we have to take one step backwards and play with a different philosophy."

However when they host Swansea on Thursday, Mourinho will be looking for his side to notch all three points as they hope to get in the title-chase mix. Chelsea currently fourth in the table trail joint leaders Arsenal and Liverpool by two and Man City by just a single point. With either of City and Liverpool destined to drop points as they meet on Thursday, Chelsea can take advantage by moving up higher in the table.

Chelsea are unbeaten at the Stamford Bridge in the league this season, with Mourinho set to make Stamford Bridge a fortress once again. The Blues have won seven of the eight matches they have played on home turf in the league this season and will be hoping to make it eight wins out of nine on Thursday.

Swansea on the other hand have lost four of the eight away matches they have played in the league this season which should bode well for their counterparts. After an impressive campaign last time out, the Swans have not started the season well and are currently 11th in the league table.

The Welsh side has managed just 38 points in the 35 league matches played this year which is hardly impressive, especially for a side which did ever so well in winning the Capital One Cup last season. Last two meetings between the two sides at Stamford Bridge ended 2-0 with victory apiece for each club. Swansea scored a massive victory over the Blues in the Capital One Cup semi-final as Michu and Danny Graham capitalized on two errors by Branislav Ivanovic.

However the scorer of the first goal that night, Michu is set to serve a lengthy spell on the sidelines following confirmation that he is to undergo an ankle surgery. Nathan Dyer, Garry Monk and Michel Vorm will join the Spanish striker on the injury table but Leon Britton is expected to make a return.

Michael Essien will be available again after serving suspension, Mourinho is also likely to shuffle things around with the likes of Juan Mata, Oscar, Samuel Eto'o and Ashley Cole rested in the match against Arsenal.
