Preview: Citizens keen to avoid another upset
The Hammers pulled out the shock of the EPL season before the international break by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at White Hart Lane. This was only their second win in the league among mixed results.
With eight points from a possible 21, West Ham United are in 13th position above Cardiff City on goal difference. Incredibly, only one point separates them from the relegation zone which is currently occupied by Fulham (7), Crystal Palace (3) and Sunderland (1) respectively.
Survival in England’s top-tier league could prove to be a very long fight for West Ham this season. However, that unexpected win over Spurs might have motivated the team to pull a few more upsets moving forward.
Manchester City are next on the list of the underdogs. The Citizens have missed eight points already – six of which got lost through stunning 3-2 defeats against Cardiff and Aston Villa. If the 2011/12 English Premier League champions want to be serious title challengers this term, they need to stop dropping points against second-half table teams.
Expect Manuel Pellegrini to use his strongest squad available as Man City search for their first away win since beating Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League on September 17. Meanwhile, the Hammers are likely to maintain the lineup that silenced the home crowd at White Hart Lane on Matchday 7.
