After months of speculations the Portuguese captain has now signed a new contract which will keep him at the Bernabeu for the next five years.

Cristiano Ronaldo signed a contract extension at Real Madrid on September 15, 2013.The 28-year-old has officially quashed rumors of a move back to Manchester, where he made waves with the Red Devils for six years scoring an impressive 118 goals and winning everything the world of football had on offer.

His delayed contract extension had put many clubs on the alert - especially his former employees who were desperate to have their star man back at the Theatre of Dreams. But Cristiano has insisted that a move to Manchester United or anywhere else for that matter was never on his mind.

"I will be honest with you. Everyone knows I was in Manchester for six years, they gave me many things, and I don't forget that," the 28 year old told reporters.

"But Manchester is the past, now it's Madrid. This is my home, my family's here, I'm really happy here.

"I respect the clubs who knocked on the door to ask about me, but they always knew my only goal was to be here and to play at this club, maybe until the end of my career.

"Nobody knows the future, but I'm going to be here for five more years and I just want to win trophies for this club. I try to do my best, like always."

The new deal will make Ronaldo the best paid player in La Liga ahead of the likes of Messi. The Portuguese icon will net him a staggering 17 million euros a year.

In his four-year stint at the Castillian club, the former Sporting Lisbon starlet has made himself worthy of being the best paid player in the Spanish League. The mercurial forward averages a goal every game having scored 203 goals in 203 appearances for Los Blancos, putting him in sixth position in Madrid's all-time top scorer chart.

Keeping his amazing scoring rate in mind, it would not be a surprise if Ronaldo overtakes the legendary Ferenc Puskás by the end of the season, who stands at fourth with 242 goals for Madrid.

Ronaldo is the jewel in Florentino Perez’s plans. The club's president sees CR7 as an integral component in the team to help Los Blancos break down Barcelona’s dominance and claim La Decima.

Ronaldo in return thanked the Real Madrid president as well as his fans for all their support:

"Being at this home is a prize to me. It's like being here my first day. It's a very special day and I'm very thankful, specially to the president and very fans that support me every game, not only on the pitch, but also off it," he said.

Ronaldo scored his 203rd Real Madrid goal on Saturday in his side's 2-2 draw away to Villarreal. His strike came a couple of minutes after goal scorer Gareth Bale was subbed off.
