Roberto Martinez looking to get the best out of the Italian champions in the International Champions Cup 2013 game on August 1, 2013.

Preview: Everton relish chances to upset odds against Italian champions

The game against Juventus would be Everton’s fourth match of the preseason and their opening game of the International Champions Cup. Roberto Martinez, who replaces David Moyes at the Goodison Park, has travelled to America for this unique eight team tournament and would be looking to use this competition in a bid to see how he should shape up his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The game will be played at the AT&T Park in San Francisco which is home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team.

After replacing Moyes at the helm, Martinez has been entrusted the responsibility of managing a side that has been performing consistently on a shoestring budget for several years now. And after showing a lot of potential during his time as the manager of Wigan Athletic which ended in Latics winning the FA Cup and also being relegated to Championship, Martinez knows that he needs to find consistency in his own abilities if he is to endear himself to the Toffees’ faithful.

Juventus on the other hand, know that after winning back-to-back Scudetto, they need to continue building momentum in order to be an equally strong force on the European Circuit. Last time, the Bianconeri waltzed its way past opponents to win the Serie A title but were unable to have an extended run in the Champions League. And Antonio Conte, who has given the club’s fans a lot of joys these past two years, would be looking to use this tournament as a part of preparing the side for the rigours of Champions League, a competition a club as prestigious as Juve should go for every season.

The new arrivals should also give the club a lot of firepower. This summer, the club recruited Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente which means that star midfielder, Andrea Pirlo will now have two great strikers whom he can feed balls, thanks to his excellent passing skills. Even though the former AC Milan man turned 34 this year, age has not hindered the star midfielder’s performances and he has proven to be a match winner ever since he joined the Old Lady and will once again be the artist that he is against Everton.

Everton on the other hand, will rely a lot on star midfielder, Marouanne Fellaini who has been hotly linked with Arsenal and Manchester United in recent weeks. The Belgian international is a midfielder who scores lots of goals and if he is given the proper support, he will cause a lot of trouble to the Juventus back four.
