The Reds overcame the Magpies courtesy of an early goal from Naby Keita, breaking a club record along the way.

Liverpool kicked off Matchday 35 in the Premier League, with the title chasers making the trip to St. James' Park for a tricky showdown with Eddie Howe's in-form Newcastle.

A few months back and this would have been a straight-forward victory for the Merseyside giants, but the Magpies' drastic improvement recently made this a tricky affair. The Reds won the game, but it was a slim 1-0 victory, helping the English giants go top of the league temporarily.

Naby Keita bagged the only goal of the game, with the Guinean midfielder netting in the 19th minute after a brilliant combination with Diogo Jota. The score line remained this way until the end of the game, and after the final whistle, the former RB Leipzig ace was lavished with praise by his manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, it was another Liverpool player who thoroughly enjoyed the early victory. That man is none other than Alisson, the highly-regarded goalkeeper who added another brilliant clean sheet to his belt.

The Brazilian shot-stopper is going head-to-head with countryman Ederson for the Premier League Golden Boot, with the former Roma man moving two ahead of his Man City rival after registering his 20th clean sheet of the campaign. In fact, he is the first keeper in Europe's top five leagues to reach 20 shutouts this season.

Additionally, Liverpool made history with this victory. Being their 42nd triumph in all competitions this term, the Merseyside giants broke their record for most wins in a single season, which was 41, set in 2019/20 and 1985/86.

Nonetheless, all that matters is the Premier League title race. With Manchester City set to visit Leeds later today, Salah and Co. will be praying for a slip-up from the Cityzens in their bid to lift a second league crown under Klopp.
