The Manchester United superstar and his partner shared the heartbreaking news ahead of Tuesday's clash with Liverpool.

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez have announced the passing away of their baby boy during childbirth. The pair, in a statement released on Monday, stated that the birth of the deceased child's twin sister remains the only thing giving them strength "to live this moment".

Back in October 2021, Cristiano and Georgina announced their pregnancy and shared their joy of the imminent arrival of the twins by posting their scan on social media. The Man United superstar already has four children, two of which are twins. In a statement shared on his official Twitter and Instagram pages on Monday night, the 37-year-old said: "It is with our deepest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.

"It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

Tributes have since been pouring in for Cristiano Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez, with that of Manchester United, Real Madrid and his club teammate Marcus Rashford leading the way. Over the weekend, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored a hat-trick in the Red Devils' 3-2 win over Norwich. On Tuesday, his side will travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in an encounter crucial to their Premier League top-four aspirations.
