After Luis Suarez sank his teeth into Branislav Ivanovic’s forearm yesterday in a Premier League encounter, he gave yet another evidence of his penchant for the outrageous
It was supposed to be Rafael Benitez’s day as he made a return to Anfield, however it was Luis Suarez once again who stole the headlines, this time not making a name for himself for his brilliance, but an imprudent act which surely brought a bad name to his club.

The Uruguayan international is arguably one of the best players in England at the moment and it is hardly surprising that Liverpool are so keen to keep him at Anfield despite his intolerable antics last night.

However, after yesterday’s events, it is quite clear that the club should come first before all else.

It was quite clear for all to see how Suarez sunk his teeth into the Serbian’s right arm. However, the centre-back should consider himself very lucky that those teeth did not find their way to his ears.

Almost three years ago, the Uruguayan was slapped with a seven-game ban by Dutch Eredivise for biting the ear of Otman Bakkal of PSV Eindhoven. That incident was one of the main reasons why Ajax Amsterdam were so keen to offload the talented, yet extremely controversial striker.

That feat earned him the nickname “Cannibal of Ajax” and now, with another player being a victim of his sharp teeth, it is quite clear that Luis Suarez needs to be taught a lesson.

Last night’s events mean that the FA could slam him with a ban of around eight games. The event in itself has enraged all those related to Liverpool, with manager Brendan Rodgers describing the incident as inexcusable and Ian Ayre stating that the striker has let the club down by his actions.

Suarez has been fined by the club and awaits FA’s decision. Regardless of how talented he is, Suarez has given football a bad name. Young people see football players as their idols so one has to question if Suarez is really the idol these wide-eyed kids with dreams and hopes of playing football on the big stage need.

Many people, especially those supporting Liverpool and Uruguay national side fans feel that Suarez is being targeted by the English media. In many ways, this is true as people do scrutinise everything the South American does. Back in 2006, Tottenham’s Jermaine Defoe bit Javier Mascherano’s arm and got away with it. If that incident is to be taken into consideration, one would naturally be forced to see some degree of prejudice when it comes to local players.

However, that does not mean that what Suarez did was justifiable. Media everywhere will be looking to propagate every single scenario. And when it is something related to Suarez, things are always going to be spiced up. This is not the first time Suarez has caused controversy and brought a bad name to Liverpool, he was also found guilty of racially abusing United full back Patrice Evra and faced an eight match ban as a result.

Suarez will be punished heavily for his latest shenanigan and it is high time for the striker to realise that such things will no more be tolerated at the club. Suarez has already been backed by the club so many times in the recent past and it is quite safe to say that he is on a last chance saloon.

Liverpool is a club rich of history and stands as one of the most respected football clubs in the country. It is true that without Suarez they would have been trailing much further in the league table, but it is unlikely that the Liverpool management will tolerate such demeaning behaviour.

Suarez joined Liverpool in the winter of 2011, after being handed a seven match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal, and that match was his last for Ajax.

It can be said that if a viable offer is presented to Liverpool in the summer, they would be willing to offload the controversial striker who could have verily played his last match for the club as an eight match ban awaits him.
