Tonight, Manchester United host Aston Villa in a Premier League encounter where a victory for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will crown them champions of England for the 20th time.
Since losing to Manchester City at home just a few weeks back, Manchester United are not giving the impression of a side that had been so threatening for most part of the 2012/2013 campaign, be that in England or in Europe.

Recent displays have not been good at all with the side clearly lacking in creativity, imagination and motivation. Regardless of whether they crawl or romp, United will be crowned the champions of England by the end of yet another exciting Barclays Premier League campaign.

Although mathematically City still have an outside chance of retaining their crown, who would bet on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side losing all their next five games?

Yesterday, Tottenham took 20 minutes to have their say on the Premier League title race when they beat Manchester City 3-1 at home. Andre Villas-Boas’ side’s victory means that yet again, the title is United’s to lose.

And tonight when they play relegation-threatened Aston Villa, the players will know that they have every chance of winning the club’s 20th domestic title at the expense of Paul Lambert’s young charges who have really suffered this season.

Apart from the elation that winning a title brings to the fans, getting a guard of honour would be an icing on the cake.

Should they win against the Villans tonight, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will have the chance of being on the receiving end of a guard of honour from Arsenal players at the Emirates Stadium next week.

Indeed, it would be quite hard for the Arsenal faithful seeing their former captain Robin Van Persie among the United cavalry celebrating the title triumph, with their players having to applaud the former Arsenal man.

The Dutchman has played a huge part in helping his side romp its way past opponents in his debut season for the club and at times has single handedly guaranteed all three points for his team.

However, it will be naive to get carried away for the time being as Aston Villa are yet to arrive at Old Trafford. Moreover, with the way United have been playing recently there is always a chance of the Villians surprising the Red Devils and postponing their title celebrations.

Aston Villa who are currently fighting against relegation, are only three points clear of 18th placed Wigan and will be hoping to extend the gap in order to survive in the league.

Villa have been quite dreadful this season, but have managed to worry top sides on several occasions. Defeating Manchester City 4-2 in a League Cup match early in the season as well as defeating Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield can be the highlight of their season and goes on to show that the side is capable of causing damage.

The Villians gave Man United a hard time in the prior meeting between the two sides at Villa Park, when a brace from Andreas Weimann gave Aston Villa a 2-0 lead. However United showcased the same mental strength they are so famously known for, and two goals from substitute Javier Hernandez along with a Ron Vlaar own goal, guaranteed the Red Devils all three points.

A Manchester United victory is on the cards and a title motivation should be enough for them to steer past a Villa side that does not appear threatening at all.

In their last five games, the Red Devils have managed only seven points out of a possible 15, however despite a poor run towards the end of the season there is no denying that Ferguson’s men truly deserve the 20th league title which they have been waiting for so long.
