Bayern bashed Hannover 5-0 while Dortmund beat Mainz to capitalize on Schalke’s draw against Frankfurt and go second in the table.

Mario Gomez is Back!

Mario Gomez took all of 26 seconds to open his Bundesliga account this season. He displayed his strength as he brushed off Hannover’s Karim Haggui with ease. He displayed great technique to put the ball into goal from a narrow angle. ‘Technique’ isn’t a word usually associated with the German striker. However, he could have notched up a hat-trick on another day considering the venom on his shots.

Beware Bundesliga! - The Goal Machine has returned!

Dortmund starting to steady the ship at the right moment.

Dortmund did not play a clean match against Mainz. They conceded a great goal early on and scored an equalizer which can at best be described as lucky. Mainz had chances to come back into the match when they were 1-2 down. Dortmund is starting to put together some good results. This will definitely leave them in better shape ahead of a crucial clash against a rampant Bayern on Saturday.

Crisis averted in Bavaria but only just.

Two draws against ten men sides were obviously going to create a mini crisis in Bavaria. However, Bayern showed that they are not in a slump by thumping Hannover 5-0. Hannover had no answers on the night for a Bayern side that just clicked. The passes made by Bayern were amazing. Crisis has been averted in Bavaria for now. However, poor results against Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund could send the club into a crisis as Bayern’s collapse last season started around this time.

Gladbach get lucky again.

Augsburg was winning a game! Gladbach has been poor at times this season and this away trip was no different. A horrendous defensive mix-up by Augsburg at the back allowed Mönchengladbach to grab an equalizer. Gladbach had luck to thank for bailing them out against Fürth and Leverkusen as well. Their luck will surely run out soon.

There are Lessons to be learned from Christian Streich’s Freiburg.

Freiburg has one of the lowest budgets in the Bundesliga. They have a modest squad. Christian Streich has turned this modest squad into a contender for European places. Freiburg is sixth in the table and will be looking to climb up further. Their win in the Badem Württemberg derby over Stuttgart was extremely convincing. They now need to take a few points off Bayern to prove that they are indeed a legitimate contender. Struggling teams can learn a lot from Freiburg about how to play good football and about how to survive in the top flight.
