With Son Heung-min joining up with the national team for the Asian Cup later this month, Spurs have dipped into the market to address this issue and have signed a familiar name to Premier League fans.

Have Tottenham found the short-term solution to their current attacking problems?

While the North London outfit boast the third-best attack in the Premier League, things will be tricky for Spurs in the upcoming weeks. The reason is simple: with James Maddison yet to return from his ankle injury, Angelos Postecoglou has now lost his top scorer Son Heung-min to international duty as South Korea kick off their Asian Cup campaign against Bahrain in a week.

As a result, Tottenham have turned to the market and are on the verge of signing a former Chelsea flop to address their immediate concerns. That man is Timo Werner, the German ace who spent two unceremonious seasons at Stamford Bridge after sealing a mega-money move from RB Leipzig.

The 27-year-old re-signed for RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022. However, Timo has found playing time hard to come by this time around at the Red Bull Arena and thus the player was keen on a move to improve his odds of representing Germany at Euro 2024.

This story broke over the past couple of days and the deal has progressed rapidly. In fact, as reported by Football London, the attacker is set to land in the English capital today to iron out the final details and schedule a medical.

The German will join Spurs on a six-month loan deal, with the Premier League outfit covering his salary in full. However, a buy option has been included worth €17M, which means a permanent return to London could be possible for Werner if he impresses.

The attacker was unpopular among Chelsea fans during his time at Stamford Bridge, scoring only 23 goals in 89 games for the Blues across all competitions. Furthermore, the German could find it difficult to fill in for Son Heung-min, who has been one of the season's most prolific Premier League attackers with 12 goals in 20 appearances so far.

Tottenham beat Burnley 1-0 on Friday to book their ticket to the FA Cup fourth round. However, the club will not be in action again for roughly a week until their highly-anticipated trip to Manchester United on January 14. All eyes will be on Werner and whether he will make his Spurs debut at Old Trafford.
