Top games to watch on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Europa League

Olympiakos vs. West Ham

West Ham, one of the favorites for the title, resume their campaign for a second consecutive European trophy, with the London outfit visiting Olympiakos in an interesting Europa League showdown. So far, the Hammers have won two out of two, have scored five goals, and have conceded only twice. As a result, Moyes' men sit top of their group. The hosts, on the other hand, sit second from bottom with a mere point and will need to be at their best in order to beat the Premier League outfit.

Marseille vs. AEK Athens

Group B is arguably this season's most exciting group, and on Thursday, it will treat us to two eye-catching games. The first involves a spicy showdown between Marseille and AEK Athens, with the Greek champions set to visit the fiery Stade Vélodrome. The visitors are currently top of the table with three points, and given that Marseille, Ajax, and Brighton sit beneath them in the standings, a win for Matías Almeyda's side could spell the end for one of those teams' time in the Europa League.

Marseille, meanwhile, are behind AEK Athens in the table with two points to their name. This is level with Ajax but one ahead of Brighton, meaning that a poor result at home could see Gattuso's side tumble down the standings. Les Phocéens are winless in all but one of their last eight outings and will need to drastically improve if they are to beat the visitors.

Leverkusen vs. Qarabag

Leverkusen have established themselves as one of the most exciting teams to watch in Europe, and on Thursday, fans will be treated to another exciting 90 minutes of Xabi-ball. Not only are the hosts top of the Bundesliga table with seven wins out of eight games, but Boniface and Co. also boast a perfect record in the Europe League, winning both of the fixtures and scoring six goals along the way.

Qarabag also boast a perfect record, winning their opening two fixtures by a 1-0 scoreline. Not only will the winner of this clash end their closest rivals' unbeaten start, but they will also go top of the table and increase their odds of winning the group. Will Leverkusen or Qarabag come away with the three points? Do not miss this clash.

Brighton vs. Ajax

Back to Group B of the 2023-24 UEFA Europa League, another stellar showdown will take place, with Brighton playing hosts to Ajax. While their qualification for Europe was met with worldwide praise, De Zerbi's men are yet to get things going, losing their opening game at home to AEK Athens before drawing 2-2 at Marseille. In fact, the Premier League outfit have not won a game since beating Bournemouth just over a month ago, losing three and drawing two of the subsequent fixtures. Will Ferguson and Co. finally get their first European win?

Ajax have not fared any better this season. The Dutch giants are in the relegation zone in the Eredivisie after winning only one of their opening seven games, and as a result, the club sacked their manager Maurice Steijn. A replacement is yet to be appointed, thus leaving the club's Europa League fate in tremendous danger. Hedwiges Maduro has taken over in an interim role and will be aiming to guide the Dutch giants to a much-needed win.

Liverpool vs. Toulouse

Liverpool will look to maintain their brilliant start to the campaign, with Klopp's men hosting Toulouse on Matchday 3. Toulouse are the Reds' closest rivals in the race to win the group, with Salah and Co. boasting six points to the visitors' four. A victory on Thursday will go a long way in sealing Liverpool a bye to the round of 16.
