The Argentine opened up the scoring and sealed a 4-4 draw with two stunners before the Herons won the tie after penalties.

Once again, it was crunch time for Lionel Messi's team, and the Argentine did not fail to deliver when his side needed him the most.

"La Pulga" had one of his best games not only since he joined Inter Miami, but also in his professional career, as he led Miami to an epic comeback against FC Dallas to keep their Leagues Cup dream alive. Messi's side was down two goals before he worked his magic with an assist and a late free kick golazo, which forced the game to be decided in a penalty shootout.

Once the spot kick showdown started, Messi did not miss his shot, paving the way for the Herons' win in the Round of 16.

Messi's first goal of the evening came after just six minutes, when he put to good use a cross by Jordi Alba to curl his shot from outside the box into the back of the net. After a VAR check, referee César Ramos awarded the Argentine one more goal with his new team.

The game became a roller-coaster ride, with Dallas scoring three times in a row and raising doubts about Miami's fate in the competition. Two own goals -one for each side- made it 4-3, and just when Dallas seemed to cling on to the win, Messi stepped up to score a stunning free kick into the top left-hand corner of Maarten Paes' net.

Inter Miami will now face the winner of the game between Houston and Charlotte in the Quarterfinals. Luckily for Messi's club, his team will be playing at home one more time.
