The Viola have now moved to hire the former Partenopei boss in a hope that he'll be able to improve their league standings next season.

Less than a week after leaving Napoli, Gennaro Gattuso already has a new job.

Although the former Rossoneri midfielder wasn't able to guide the Partenopei back into the Champions League, he will now have a new task heading into the 2021/2022 season: to help Fiorentina. Napoli missed out on the Champions League by one point after failing to beat Hellas Verona on the final matchday, as they were held to a one-one draw with the struggling outfit.

Meanwhile, Juventus picked up a resounding 4-1 win over Bologna to squeeze into fourth and thus secure the final Champions League spot at Napoli's expense. That meant they finished in fifth place and will feature in the Europa League for next season.

Fiorentina, for their part, ended up in 13th place with 40 points - which is their lowest ever tally since Serie A went to three points per game. The Viola ended their campaign on a sour note, as Giuseppe Iachini's men stumbled to a dull scoreless stalemate with an already-relegated Crotone on matchday 38.

In short, Gattuso will have a lot of work to do once the 2021/2022 season begins.
