Pre-Game Special Fuera de Juego Breaks Ratings Record; Success on Digital Platforms
ESPN Deportes’ live coverage of El Clasico, La Liga’s most anticipated match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, was the highest-rated telecast on Spanish-language cable television amongst Hispanic men 18+ so far this year.

The game, played Saturday, April 16, from Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, delivered an average of over 524,000 Hispanic male viewers 18+. Its impressive 9.4 Hispanic household coverage rating represents an average of 483,000 Hispanic Households. The match is the second-most-watched telecast ever on ESPN Deportes, behind the Nov 2009 Clasico which delivered 512,000 Hispanic household impressions).

In addition, the pre-game special edition of Fuera de Juego, produced on location in Madrid, delivered the show’s highest rating ever, a 3.1 Hispanic household coverage rating. The show was hosted by Fernando Palomo with panelists Jose Antonio “Tato”Noriega, Rafa Puente, special guest Jose Ramón Fernández and field reporting by Martin Ainstein.

Spain’s La Liga is the most watched soccer league on Spanish-language cable. El Clasico delivered strong ratings for ESPN Deportes in key U.S. Hispanic markets with New York leading the way with a 6.6 Hispanic household rating and Los Angeles with a 5.2.

The game was also a success on digital platforms. ESPNdeportes.com drew a near-record audience that day as Clásico content exceeded one-quarter of a million page views from U.S. users. The content was instrumental in pushing ESPN Deportes Twitter account followers to well over 200,000. On ESPN Deportes Mobile web, a single-day record was set with 1.5 million page views along with 300,000 visits. ESPN3.com delivered impressive numbers with the live streaming of the match. The English language feed of El Clasico logged more than 8.3 million minutes consumed with 175,000 unique viewers, the most ever for non-World cup soccer match on ESPN3.
