The English Premier League is back, and fans could not have enough of it during the first game back after the coronavirus pause.

Football will surely have a key role in bringing things back to normality all around the world, and being able to watch a Premier League game for the first time in months was not something football fans were ready to miss.

According to rating numbers published by the English TV channel, the game between Manchester City and Arsenal had one of the largest audiences in history, with over 3.4 million viewers registered by the network.

Those figures represent the highest-ever audience for a game in which neither Manchester United nor Liverpool were involved. The clash that concluded with a three-nil win for the Citizens is now the third most-watched Premier League game of all time, behind the Monday Night match between Manchester City and Manchester United in 2012 and one more clash between Liverpool and Manchester United played in October.

On top of that, it was the largest audience for a game that didn't feature either the Red Devils or the Reds in over three years.

The channel's decision to add crowd noises to their broadcast was also praised by viewers during that game. The chances of watching more games with those noises included are high, especially since the clash between Aston Villa and Sheffield United did not include them and fans were not as satisfied with the end result.
