Preview: Liverpool vs Napoli

Liverpool may have had to settle for a runners-up spot in the Premier League after Manchester City pipped them to the league title by just one point, but Jurgen Klopp's men certainly weren't too disappointed with the outcome of the 2018/2019 season. On June 1, they beat Tottenham in an all-English Champions League final to win European club football's biggest prize and make amends for their heartbreaking and unfortunate defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final a year ago in Kiev, which ended a 14-year-long wait for the Reds to finally get their hands on the coveted prize. It's also the first Champions League win for Klopp after finishing as a runners-up on two occasions in 2013 and in 2018.

Pre-season has been in full swing for the Reds, and they've had some mixed fortunes so far. They come into this game having failed to win their last three fixtures in the United States after picking up comfortable wins against lower-tier sides Tranmere Rovers (6-0) and Bradford City (3-1) in England. However, upon arriving stateside, Liverpool struggled against Klopp's former side Borussia Dortmund, losing that fixture 3-2 before again stumbling to a 2-1 loss at Fenway Park to La Liga outfit Sevilla.

Although they managed a 2-2 draw with Portuguese side Sporting CP at Yankee Stadium, it was an overall disappointing American tour for Klopp's side, and they will be keen on getting back to winning ways against Napoli back in the UK as they take on the Partenopei in Scotland.

For Napoli, Liverpool will present their first serious opponent, as they have largely played against minnows in Italy's lower tiers. So far, they have won one, lost one, and draw one of their three friendlies so far.
