The former Blues midfielder has been named as a strong candidate to replace the Italian manager who is seemingly on his way out.

Derby County manager Frank Lampard is ready for a sit-down with his employer Mel Morris to discuss his future amid rumors of an imminent return to Chelsea. The former Blues midfielder has been tipped to replace Maurizio Sarri who has reportedly agreed to succeed Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus.

A 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley on Monday, condemned Lampard's Derby side back to the English second tier. However, despite the disappointment, the 40-year-old ex-England international has received massive plaudits for an impressive campaign in his managerial debut.

Recent reports claim that he has caught the attention of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and the Russian businessman is said to be keen on parting ways with Sarri in order to welcome the arrival of his club's all-time top goalscorer.

As per the Daily Mail, the ex-Napoli manager - who still has two years left on his current Chelsea contract is on the verge of returning to the Serie A as he has already agreed terms to join Juventus. The Italian club is expected to make a proper call for the 60-year-old after he leads Chelsea to Wednesday's Europa League Final against Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Lampard has revealed that he is in no rush to terminate his stay with Derby County despite the apparent interest from his former club.

"I've got two years on my contract, I'm meeting with Mel and the other meeting was nothing to do with talks or anything else," he was quoted to have said by talkSPORT.

"The talks with Mel are important because we have gone on a long way this year for different reasons.

"Loan players or not, it doesn't matter. The club and I want to keep pushing on and Mel Morris has given so much to this club and talks are crucial on all fronts.

"They're just to see where we are at and that's where I'm at."
