A new adventure beckons for the former Belgian international.

Manchester United has confirmed that Marouane Fellaini has left the club. The 31-year-old Belgian midfielder has joined Chinese club Shandong Luneng having spent five-and-a-half years at Old Trafford.

Prior to the official announcement, Fellaini confirmed his exit by posting a photograph of himself with his entourage at the airport on deadline day with the caption "Let's go." According to reports, Shandong Luneng paid Manchester United 10 million pounds for the service of the ex-Everton player.

A statement released by the Premier League club read: "Manchester United can confirm that Marouane Fellaini has left the club on a permanent transfer.

"Everybody at United thanks Marouane for his services and wishes him well for the future as he completes his move to Shandong Luneng Taishan FC in China."

Fellaini reunited with his former Everton boss David Moyes at Manchester United in 2013. He earned himself the reputation of being a "Plan B" for both Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho despite his unpopularity among the Red Devils' fan base.

Under new interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Belgian midfielder played for 31 minutes in nine games. However, he leaves Manchester United 177 appearances under his belt of which he managed 22 goals.

Marouane Fellaini won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his stint with the Old Trafford outfit.
