Here is the hottest transfer news story of the day. Arsenal’s Peter Hill-Wood has retorted in the bluntest of manners to angry supporters who cry out for the club to spend cash.
A couple of days ago, Arsene Wenger stated that he “would be surprised if there is any news” about the club signing any player before the close of the transfer window. This declaration provoked annoyance among many Arsenal fans whereas transfer news headlines hit the media only to put more pressure on the Gunners.

So what did Chairman Peter Hill-Wood have to say about all this noise? In an interview with the Daily Star, the pro-youth development system supporter addressed himself to the public in such a blunt manner which included reminders and comparisons.

“It’s important for me and for the board to not lose our nerve when the media and the fans are all screaming. We’ve had some tough years.

“Once, in the mid-1980s, I was smuggled out of Highbury, lying in the back of the car. We were having a bad run, and there were 500 people standing outside the boardroom shouting, ‘F**k off, Hill-Wood’.

“These days, the bar has been raised. But, I’m surprised that people keep saying that Arsenal have not won anything for 5 years. Liverpool haven’t won the league for 20 years!

“And I remember when they were in the old Second Division and Manchester United were in the old Second Division... I think the boys and girls who support us are very lucky.

“I remember a year ago, standing in the front of the directors’ box... there was a woman shout, ‘Spend some f*****g money’.

“I said, ‘Don’t worry, darling. Leave it to us; we will sort it out’... or some similar patronising statement, which probably pissed her off even more.

“This season, we’re still in all competitions and we’re 2nd in the league. So, we’re not that bloody bad!”

And supporting Arsene Wenger’s declaration of other big clubs as being guilty of ‘financial doping’, Arsenal’s 74-year-old Peter Hill-Wood continued:

“I don’t believe in the way Chelsea and Manchester City have achieved whatever they’ve achieved. It’s so much more satisfying to build something, to get boys of 15 to 18 and see them develop sufficiently well to win the Premier League or other trophies than sitting there and saying, ‘I want to buy the best striker in the world and I don’t care what it costs’.

“A, it’s not something we could possibly do and B, even if we could, I wouldn’t want to do it. If some bloody Russian wants to buy the place and everyone wants to sell, then okay, I will go and grow tomatoes in Kent!

“But, if you’ve got a benefactor and he gets run over by a bus, you’re gone. We’ve got to have 50,000 people run over by a bus before we have a problem!”

Is there any way clearer than this one to tell Arsenal fans that the Gunners are not ready to drop their tight transfer budget policy? It seems like Chairman Peter Hill-Wood is done with this job!
