Question marks remain over the under-fire Frenchman's future, as a drop in form has seen the fans turn against Le Prof once more.

With Arsenal’s 2017/18 season going from bad to worse in the last few weeks, calls for Arsene Wenger’s sacking have hit an all-time high. A number of reports claim the north London outfit has shortlisted a number of candidates to replace him, with one reportedly being keen to succeed the Frenchman.

According to the Sun, that man is Massimiliano Allegri. The Italian would be a popular appointment due to the success he has achieved at Juventus, winning three straight league titles and guiding the Old Lady to two Champions League finals.

And on Wednesday, the Italian tactician guided his men to a 2-1 win at Wembley to knock out Tottenham from the Champions League. The British tabloid claims that victory earned him plaudits at the Emirates.

This is not the first time that Allegri is being linked with the Gunners job. He was tipped as the leading candidate to replace Le Prof last season before the Frenchman was awarded a two-year deal upon winning the FA Cup. Chelsea is also reportedly interested in the Bianconeri boss.

Despite ruling out a move to England, the article claims he is learning English in private and would jump at the opportunity to manage Arsenal should there be a vacancy. The former AC Milan manager feels unsafe over his future in Turin, hence his willingness to jump ship.

While the decision to replace Wenger has not been made, failure to win the Europa League and a second consecutive season without Champions League football could spell the end for the long-serving tactician. However, Arsene showed in the 2-0 win at San Siro that he is not out of tricks just yet and could turn their form around, starting this Sunday in their home clash with Watford in the Premier League.
