The English footballer finally joined the Blues after bringing down a deal for refusing to undergo medical tests last summer

Last summer, Ross Barkley pulled a Houdini-like move when asked to take a medical that would confirm his signing for Chelsea. Today, the footballer finally agreed to take that test and signed a five-and-a-half year contract with the Blues.

Speaking to Chelsea's website, Barkley admitted that signing with the Blues will certainly become a breath of fresh air for his career.

"To be given a fresh start at a new club like Chelsea, it's unbelievable for me. I'm looking forward to continuing where I left off at the end of last season and hoping to improve and add more goals to my game," the player stated.

Here's how Chelsea's Twitter feed revealed the player's signing earlier today.

Everton agreed to let the deal take place after Chelsea paid them $20M dollars for the midfielder. Everton's stance changed from last summer, as they initially requested $47M from the Blues. With Barkley's contract set to end with this season, Everton couldn't afford one of their best players leave on a free transfer, which is why they lowered their demands.

Barkley will wear Chelsea's legendary No. 8, which once belonged to fan-favorite Frank Lampard.
