Malaga have completed a loan move for Bayern Munich's unhappy Martin Demichelis. The La Liga club continues its stunning transfer window shopping as Demichelis becomes its fifth signing.
The Bayern Munich centre-back is set to remain with the Spanish outfit “for the rest of the season” as it was confirmed on Thursday. As of now, the fee for the player’s transfer hasn’t been revealed, but it is known that the 30-year-old Argentine international could make his move at Malaga a permanent one at the end of the loan contract.

It is also probable that Martin Demichelis won’t return to the Allianz Arena considering the circumstances through which he decided to leave Bayern Munich. The player was understandably struggling to cope with the club lately and this matter is something that had commenced since the start of the season. Ahead of Bayern Munich’s opening match of the 2010/11 German Bundesliga season which was against Wolfsburg, Coach Louis Van Gaal had dropped Demichelis from the team’s starting XI.

This managerial choice apparently annoyed the Argentine defender who eventually requested to be entirely excluded from Bayern Munich’s squad. Unfortunately for Martin Demichelis – who spent almost eight years at the club – the situation between him and Hollywood FC didn’t improve for the better and a transfer to Malaga became the ultimate option for the player to escape further troubles. Prior to his loan move to the La Liga club, Martin Demichelis talked to Bild as he expressed his disappointment at the way his career had terminated at the Allianz Arena.

“A very successful period at Bayern Munich has come to an end with my departure,” he stated.

“I’ve won many trophies here, and I have played with some great players: [Oliver] Kahn, Pizarro, Makaay, Ze Roberto, Sagnol, Lizarazu and many more.

“Obviously, it makes me a bit sad to leave the club. I knew that everything that happened in recent weeks meant that time was up for me at Bayern.

“The fans in Stuttgart, Hoeness and Rummenigge in the dressing room with the team... these are things that were quite hard for me to deal with.

“I wish my farewell was different. Things could have been so much better. But, this is the club where it all happened for me. I will be grateful to Bayern Munich for the rest of my life.”

For the rest of the season, Martin Demichelis will have to play La Liga football. His new challenge won’t be to help struggling Bayern Munich to achieve higher standards in the German Bundesliga this term. Instead, Demichelis will have to experience the difficulty of helping Malaga to avoid relegation.

After sixteen match-days, Demichelis’ new team are eighteenth in La Liga as they prepare to face nineteenth-placed Sporting Gijon on January 2. But with the recent signings of Nacho Camacho, Enzo Maresca, Sergio Asenjo and Julio Baptista, a much better future is expected from Malaga's all-new squad.
