Here's how things look in Group G ahead of the match

Preview

Both Spain and Italy come into this game still unbeaten after six rounds. That sees La Furia Roja and the Azzurri level on points, although it's Spain who sit on top due to their superior goal difference. This game could ultimately prove decisive in who gains that automatic spot and who wil have to settle for a runners-up spot.

Thanks to his success in MLS, David Villa has earned himself a recall to the squad after featuring for the team at the 2014 World Cup. Not surprisingly, there's no room in the team for Diego Costa, who has not played since his exile from Chelsea, and interestingly, despite Manchester United's solid start to the season, neither Ander Herrera nor Juan Mata were handed a call-up.

As for Italy, they have been dealt a major blow in the heart of defense. Giorgio Chiellini has been ruled out after suffering a calf injury, which means that coach Giampiero Ventura will have to change up the famed trio of Bonucci-Barzagli-Chiellini that have helped Juventus reign supreme as the no. 1 team in Serie A.
