Internazionale have made it official: Rafael Benitez is no longer the coach of the Nerazzurri as the club’s official website confirmed the matter on Thursday afternoon.
“F.C Internazionale and Rafael Benitez communicate that, mutually and with reciprocal satisfaction, they have reached an agreement for the solution of their working relationship.

“F.C Internazionale would like to thank Rafael Benitez for his work at the helm of the team which led them to the Supercoppa Italiana and FIFA Club World Cup successes.

“Rafael Benitez thanks F.C Internazionale for the important and professional experience and for the victories obtained together.”

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are yet to publicly voice out the name of Rafael Benitez’s successor. AC Milan’s former boss Leonardo has been tipped to continue the work at the San Siro whereas Rafa is set to gain around €3M from the rescission as he leaves Internazionale.

In an interview which followed this official announcement, the ex-Liverpool coach told ANSA:

“I want to thank everyone for the support that I received during my experience at Inter. I want to thank them personally and on behalf of the staff, players and employees of the club, and also of the fans who had placed their trust in us.

“The two titles we won were the result of the commitment of all those who have been on our side, maintaining the basic principles of professionalism, education, respect and dedication to the club.

“Regardless of the sadness, which I think is natural when you leave a big club like Inter, we take with us the joy of the memories of the fans who welcomed us after winning the Club World Cup.

“I would also like to greet the players, staff and employees who, because of the holiday period, I can personally greet in the coming days. I wish all of them, as well as the club and the fans, the greatest sporting success for the future.

“Finally, it is incumbent on my part to thank President Massimo Moratti for choosing me as coach.”

It’s finally the end of the road for Rafael Benitez at Internazionale as Massimo Moratti stated that “the split had become inevitable”.
